Breweries Opening/Closing in Minnesota 2018

I kinda feel the reverse. I've been to way too many breweries early on in their run that had tons of taps with a high variation in quality. Encouraged that they are focusing on quality!

 

I totally agree with this. A few places in the past year have opened with 12 or more beers on tap, and each time my initial thought was "that's ambitious". So far, I don't think it's backfired, as the offerings all seemed really good (12welve Eyes, Hoops, etc), but it makes me cautious.

To me, if a new brewery opens with 4 really well executed beers, it leaves me wanting more and I will definitely stop back in.

 

Especially if more beer comes down the line quickly. I think Barrel Theory opened with about 5 beers.

 

Lakes & Legends and Headflyer both opened with at least 10 taps and it was disastrous. On the other end of the spectrum, Wild Mind opened with 4 saisons and it didn’t kill their business.

It’s worth noting that Dual Citizen only had 4 beers earlier this week, but expects to have more than that when they open tomorrow.

 

"Bauhaus’ revamped taproom re-opens with full table service." Personally, I thought Bauhaus already had one of the best taproom venues in Minnesota as well as good beer. Where it's lacking is in variety.

 

Spiral Brewing - Hastings got their equipment in the past week and plan to open in the next couple of months .

 

I stopped into Dual Citizen today and was pleasantly surprised. They still only have 4 beers on tap, but they were all well-attenuated and clean. The cream ale and imperial stout were my favorites. The pale ales were both light on hops, but still enjoyable. The taproom itself is really nice and the beers are reasonably priced. They don’t have many parking spaces of their own, but it’s easy to find something next to the brewery. I’ll try to go back later this week when they tap some other stuff.

 

Thanks for the report back on DC . Taproom looks really nice . I was going to swing in Saturday but saw how incredibly busy it was and thought better to wait a little bit before hitting up this new place.

I did hear the Stout was the best of 4 . Will be interested to see what they add to their lineup.

 

I stopped into Venn Brewing and was pleasantly surprised. I'd read some negative reviews, but we tried all 16 of their beers and several were really good. Their IPAs and Pale Ales weren't all that special, but we liked the Sahti, the German Pale Ale, the Belgian Tripel, and the India Pale Lager. They had a decent sour as well. Their Breakfast Stout was decent if you like them on the sweet end. It was a bit too sweet for my taste.

There were a few we were unimpressed with - the Golden Ale, the Black Lager, and the Scottish Export were all a little underwhelming. Regardless, I liked the place and there's plenty of beer worth drinking.

 

Finnegans sign is now up on their new brewery/taproom in Elliot Park , Minneapolis. Opening is still a couple months out as I know they were aiming for mid March / St. Patrick’s Day .

 

It appears that Cap's Grill was sold and is not going to be a brewpub after all in fact it is currently shut down. Not sure what the future is holds for this spot

Ugh, BA Brunch Stout on tap only... apparently Brett was the only one that knew how to operate the bottling machine.

 

They probably can’t operate the keg filler either. They are likely leftover kegs from the last Persnickity, BAIBS, and Lord Bert releases.
