I happened to drive by on the way to Utepils and by the looks of it, they might actually be open soon-
    Nice looking place!

I asked them yesterday when they anticipated opening, and they said sometime next Spring.

The MidTown Tavern (Mankato) plan to turn into a brewpub now has a name (to be implemented when it truly converts into a brewpub): Minn'Ohana. The owners claim they'll be serving their own beers "within a few months."

Just across the border of the southeastern part of the state, 608 Brewing Company in La Crosse, Wisconsin opens this weekend. I can't say it sounds like my kind of place, but I have a feeling we'll all be hearing a lot about it soon. The homebrew version of its beer gets extremely high ratings on Untappd with a 4.44 average (for comparison, Tree House gets a 4.40); supply your own grain of salt.

I visited Gravity Storm brewing in Austin, MN last night. From the sound of it they opened a bit more than a week ago & are currently open Monday, Tuesday, Friday, & Saturday.

There are 8-10 stools at the bar, & several tables of varying sizes that take up empty space from just inside the front window towards the back of the bar. A couple of big shiny tanks are on display, but the bulk of the brewing operations are out of sight.

The beer wasn't flawed, wasn't terrible, wasn't great. I had a flight & the Pre-Prohibition Lager was the best of the bunch. Clean & tasty. Next up was the Hurricane Rye Saison, which was much more rye than saison, which fits my tastes perfectly. Third: St. Somewhere, a sweet stout that was a bit better than average & last, in both senses, the Pencil Thin Mustache IPA, which was too malty & not hoppy enough. Not my thing, & strictly mediocre to my jaded palate.

Nice people, nice place, no immediate flaws upon opening, with a couple of beers I'd drink again. The lager in particular points to some brewing chops. I think Gravity Storm will do just fine.

Birch's Lowertown are shooting for an August 21st opening, however some delays in getting approvals may push the date back a bit.

I work in the same building as the new Birch's location, so I hope they open next week, but from what I can see, they have a LONG way to go before they are ready to open. They don't appear to have any fixtures in yet, and the space is still very much unfinished.

The Growler has an article on Torg Brewing in Spring Lake Park. "The couple will open Torg Brewery in Spring Lake Park at the end of August or beginning of September." (You can guess what I'd say to that.) It sounds like they'll be emphasizing traditional / throwback microbrew styles.

Second brewery opening in Monticello very soon (this fall). Seems to have popped up out of nowhere. Nordic Brewing Co. I guess they bought the old brewhouse from Jack Pine.

They are going to be at Monticello Brewfest Saturday with such unique beers as their Cream Ale, Wheat, Red Ale, and something they call a Caribbean Stout? :-\
