Hope continues to fade that I'll ever be able to get to every taproom in the Twin Cities.

BTW, I swung by Waconia Brewing and there was a bunch of construction going on as there was at J. Carver Distillery. I wonder which one I'll be drinking first?

I'm not down with sexist jokes. So, it gets called out.

I have to agree with you here. My vague understanding of the concept of feminism is that it promotes gender equality. Using their gender as a marketing tool to differentiate their brewery from other breweries does the opposite of that. It implies that there are differences, and the consumer should choose them because of those differences. If, however, they had just opened up as a brewery that just happened to be owned and operated by women without using that fact as a marketing tool I think they would certainly be supporting gender equality. But, hey, I'm just a guy so what is my opinion on women's issues worth?

As an aside, I'd like to note that I am all for gender equality. It just seems that sometimes (like this) there are some women who want to have their cake, and eat it to (equality with perks which isn't equality). I think that really hurts the cause.

You still don't get it do you? The joke is not at the expense of women, since I clearly stated it was a joke and that's not where the humor comes from. It comes from the idiotic nothing that some men (and women) have that a woman's place is in the kitchen.

I might agree with you on all counts. And yet... how many of you actually tried Deb Loch's beer?

I had the opportunity to do so a year ago, at their second open house. Deb is a solid brewer, and that is all that matters to me with respect to the topic at hand (beer) and with particular respect to this thread.

*FWIW, a brewery could be owned and operated by Left-handed Eskimo Albino Midgets for Ted Cruz and I would still go to their facility to check them out. I know a little bit about niche-marketing (trust me), but it's about the beer, first.

Did Lake Monster already fizzle out?

I completely agree. It seems that the more crowded the market gets the more outlandish some breweries marketing gets (the message 'We're women. Drink our beer.' is outlandish), and to me it's getting old. It would be nice to see a brewery open up, and say something like, 'Here's our beer. We think its good enough to speak for itself, and we think you will too'.

As for the beer, if it has your endorsement I do look forward to trying it (over the last decade I've noticed you and I have similar tastes). I also look forward to trying Urban Growler's food. Hell, in my opinion, that already sets them apart from every other taproom in the state.

Alas, like you said, let's move on with the thread. Any word on Lynlake Brewing? I found an article the other day that stated an August opening, but driving by it today it didn't look remotely close to being ready (at least from the outside).

This doesn't help me at all, but Castle Danger is opening their taproom this weekend.

I'm planning a trip up to Duluth in early September, not sure if I'm going to be able to talk my wife into that excursion if we're not already heading in that direction (she loves beer, but the whole being pregnant thing makes going to taprooms a little less fun for her). Maybe if we head up to Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse. That could work. Hmmm. Strategy.

I'll second that. I tried her beers last year too. They were solid.

I'm planning to bike over there tonight.

I camped at Gooseberry earlier in July and was able to swing by the new closed brewery. It looked...uhh...under construction :-)

Luckily we stopped somewhere for lunch and they had Castle Danger on tap. It was good, not great. Look forward to trying them again next year when we go up there.

Lyn-Lake is moving right along, but as you said -- not much to see from the outside looking in. All three brewing personnel have wicked-awesome facial hair goin' on, so yep, they are par for the course so far. :stuck_out_tongue:

My landlord decided to become a financial supporter -- one of the last, in fact, to put them over the top. He gets a free beer a day for life (or some such thing.) I'll probably head over there at some point in the future, when I ain't so busy payin' the consarn bills.

Someone just asked me if the brewery at Gunflint Tavern (Grand Marais) is open yet. It's not. The last update I saw was in April, but I figured they'd be open by now. Anyone know the current status? Thanks.

Well, here's their blog. Looks like they've come along far enough as of April that they are probably brewing pilot batches, at least. I sent him a ridiculous, slobbering Craft Beer Geek™ fanboy letter of an email, so maybe he'll actually reply...

I love Grand Marais so I hope it's up and running when I venture up there at the end of the month
