    Two very brief updates:

F-Town is now officially open, and cans are being sold in the local market:

Lakeville Brewing (a brewpub plan; Not to be confused with another local area plan) now has a provisional website.

I was in Warroad last week for work. Talk about isolated. I was just happy to have Sam Adams Boston Lager on-tap and Goose Island IPA bottles at the bar attached to the motel.

I wonder if a craft brewery is sustainable in that part of the state.

I've almost given up hope on U4ic and Roet's in Jordan. Such......slow.......progress.....

Hasn't U4IC talked about being close to opening for the last 2 years? It's a myth I tell ya!

Possibly International Falls could sustain a brewery.

Brau Brothers worked in Lucan, and Boathouse works in Ely so there is some precedent for success in an isolated small town.

True but that is Blatz country up that way....although I guess you could say the same about some of these other rural areas being Schmidt country or whatever. A place like Perham I never thought would ever go beyond the BMC offerings but now they have a decent beer bar and a brewery coming as well. Not apples to apples as there are other economic factors that favor Perham over say I-Falls but interesting to think about.

Wow I hope so. Loved that beer. Not sure that is reflected in my review

What brewery is that guy at?

It's Tim Roets. Who should be opening in Jordan "soon".

Both of the are going through their own sets of issues. U4IC is in a township, so instead of dealing with a city, they are dealing with Scott County. Water issues, septic issues, building issues, blah blah blah. When is was down there 2 weeks ago, they had the floor cracked to put in pipes for sink drains, waiting to be approved...they will open

As for Roets, we all know about the mudslide. A neighbor of mine has been there a few times and they are rolling along. It sounds like Tim is there most everyday working on things; they are waiting on the state to approve a new larger electrical.system, the one they have was approved by the city...

Both said they are not going to throw out a date, but if I had to be a betting man, Roet's would love to be open around September 12th. That is Jordan's city celebration. Big German party...

Tim Roets also made at least some (possibly all; I'm not sure) of the cider/cyser/mead/graff at Minnesota Harvest Orchard in Jordan last year. I don't know if he's still working with them or if Minnesota Harvest Orchard's bar area is open for the season yet.

That doesn't do it for you? Probably one of those IPA drinking folks. Marzen and Kolsch for me, please

I agree with what you say, but there is the other end of the scale as well. Well funded enterprises in prime locations with supposed commercial brewers that are putting out total crap. The worst beer since Staple Mills closed bad. But I agree that if you are relying on off-sales that you have an experienced brewer at the helm to ensure a quality product to the market. I do not want to buy a 6-pack of "home brew" in a can.

In "Not a brewery" news - the grand opening for the Wander North Distillery cocktail room has been delayed a week. Apparently, a plumbing issue led to a delayed inspection, but they're finally good to go. Grand Opening Saturday, 7/18. I suspect he may do a soft opening before that.

This info is on their Facebook page and not their website. Which is why I'm now sitting at Northgate Brewing next door with a pint of their Pub Ale on Nitro.

Went to Broken Seals tasting party and they are legit. They had a Mild Ale that was very quaffable, berry blonde that was refreshing and a really good single hop Mosaic pale ale. They offered 8 beers and two sodas (cream soda was tasty). Might be worth keeping an eye on.
