Have not been to Nutmeg. 10K was like bad homebrew in early January. A couple buddies whose opinions I trust were just there last week and thought it was average at best so maybe some improvement. Granted they had a smoked beer and coffee beer which can hide somethings. One year ago, Maple Island was kind of the same when we went there. Bad homebrew like. I have not been back since but a buddy bikes into Stillwater occasionally and usually stops a couple times a summer and this past summer he said there had not been much improvement. Another six months has passed so its possible it has gotten better but they seemed to be under the impression their beers were incredible when we were there so if there is no reason to think you need to improve will they?

Talked to some guys from Wayzata Brew Works last weekend at the Chili Open. They will be located next to 6 Smith on Lake St. The guy I spoke to is the one who set up the brewery, and seems like that is his primary job (sets up breweries in the area and around the country). He said the main brewer is someone from 612, which caused me to pause since I don't care for their beer that much. Hope he left 612 because he didn't care for their beer either. Anyway, they are planning to open 3/24/16.

    Cheers!

I'd heard of a new plan for lowertown a while back (not this one) which means that yours is the first update!

Several plans 'floating' around (Boathouse Brothers, Pine City, Woodbury) have stumped me, but I've been too busy drankin' to do much diggin'. I have heard that Valhalla Smoke & Ale House has merged with parent Roma Restaurant, and still no word on whether they'll follow through on the one-time plan to open a brewery on-site. Hattip @islay.

Thanks you answered @Chaz any more on Oude Oak?

I made it back to Wicked Wort on Saturday. I had the pils and didn't experience the same flavor profile as sudo. I thought it was more like German hop aroma and flavor. Definitely not Czech hops (Saaz). Carbonation seemed fine. No really off flavors either.

While not packed like opening weekend, it was busy.

I have no specifics on Oude Oak's south Minneapolis taproom. But the "sour scene" is tight, and no doubt there will be collaborative efforts. I reckon someone behind the scenes will chime in on that before long. :sunglasses:

I do see that there's construction going on at a St. Paul plan, and an outstate taproom, too.

Dundas - Meetinghall has indicated that they will be open mid-2016.
Wayzata - Wayzata Brew Works is pluggin' away:

Good to know. According to untappd looks like they're rolling with brews higher than 5% finally. So I suspect new batches with improvements. Looks like I'll have to give them another go here soon.

I didn't look at ABV but my guess the brewer is dialing in the new brewery and getting better efficiency. I'd expect this for all new breweries.

I met one of the three guys behind 12welveeyes at the Able taproom a month or two ago. He said they're going to be in the historic Pioneer-Endicott building in downtown St. Paul. It sounded like maybe they were aiming for a late 2016 opening.

Bad first impressions can take a while to overcome. If a brewer is going to have an awful first few batches, let's hope they have the initial investment to burn through until their product improves.

If 3 is the average (3.5 being above average) that 3.6 doesn't look too bad, eh?

Especially when we consider the fact that most of what August Schell brews isn't brewed for the palates that exist in the small segment of the market comprised by "us" (Beer Advocate users, 'Ratebeerians', OBBD / BBB regulars, etc), but is instead brewed to appeal to a wider range of drinkers in the overall market.
Bingo! Many who are new to the beer hobby (rating, collecting, trading, breweriana, 'beercations') rate highly due to their burgeoning enthusiasm, and there has never a time when either newly-legal drinkers or drinkers in general have been so attuned to one segment of the market as we have seen with Craft Beer in the age of social media.

While it is too soon to know for certain how the general market feels about the ever-increasing number of breweries, much less the (oftentimes) more challenging stylistic interpretations which are being brewed, served, and packaged, we know for certain that there will be more breweries on the way.

Speaking of which, here's today's update:

I'm looking forward to 1858 Brewing. It'll be the brewery closest to me assuming they get a location in Blaine as the website suggests. Plus a buddy of mine is one of the minds behind the project, I've only had one sample, but they seem to strive to make a high quality product as opposed to simply making money. I think that'll be the difference between which breweries stay successful and which ones fold in a few years.
