That makes total sense. I'm pretty sure my drivers are too long, and I try to compensate for the extra length with my swing (very hard to do). At a certain point you can't choke up anymore without being worse off. I probably should get fitted for a basic set of drivers. That'll have to come after buying a decent all-grain setup, and some kegs though!!

    Update:

This was a total success! Pete was totally digging the whole process and seemed to absorb a lot of information pretty well - he was asking all the right questions. The process involved a trip to the LHBS, where the staff was very accommodating and let him taste the malts we were using as well as some others for reference. Pleased with the LHBS!

Brew went off without a hitch - manged our mash temps very well; narrowly averted a boil-over and hit our numbers pretty well. Was looking for an OG of 1.056 and hit 1.058. REALLY pleased about that!

Pitched the starter Saturday evening, and by Sunday morning fermentation was in full swing...

He really wants to try all-grain now... My job is done!!

Yeah, I kicked off Spring Break by starting to move my side yard fence forward, and was going to replace a couple rotted boards on my deck only to find that the joists were all rotted out underneath because some braniac thought Dog Fir was great to build a deck out of in the PNW! Ended up ripping it out over Saturday and last night, then spent today rebuilding the frame and will put the boards on after a few relaxing days at the coast. Glad it was sunny!

Never did any of this. I will get the hops in next weekend after I finish the deck (see just above this quote). I also decided to steep about 1# Special B and boil it down to a syrup then add it to the Saison turned Dubbel and then hit it with a bunch of dregs and my sour blends to turn it into a pseudo-Flander's Red.

Bottled up my Chinook-Mosaic-Citra IPA and got kinda schnookered off of the bottling samples. So tasty.
Had a couple bottles of Apfelwein as well so it was a good weekend.

Can't wait for warm weather and outdoor brewing in Chicago!
