Beverly could use a place like this. Anyone know any other details?

    http://www.chicagomag.com/Radar/Dish/April-2012/Horse-Thief-Hollow-a-New-Brewpub-Plans-for-a-Fall-Opening-in-Beverly/

In a pre-Mob, precorruption chapter of Chicago history, horse thieves used to hide in the woods of what is now Beverly in the mid-19th century, giving the area a name that a brewpub will resurrect: Horse Thief Hollow (10426 S. Western Ave.; no phone yet). Planned for a fall opening, the 5,900-square-foot, 90-seat space will have a smoker for barbecue and brewery equipment for 15 to 20 taps’ worth of beer. Housemade sausages and brewer’s bread made from spent grains will be featured on the menu of sandwiches and smoked meats, along with a Friday fish fry. “Charcuterie, burgers, salmon burgers—all that kind of stuff. Really well-made casual food for between $8 and $15. That’s what I’m looking for,” says Neil Byers, a partner. This place is a constellation of three things there seems to be no end of in Chicago: beer, meat, and stories of crimes past.

I grew up on mt. Greenwood and just visited my parents recently. The south side could definitely use a place like this. I think the people will really get behind it. Well, except for my dad.....he's cheap.

Sounds great. I'm in Oak Lawn and would love to have something like this close by.

That must be the west side of the street? I thought Beverly was dry? It was when I lived there (until 94)

    Interesting!

East side of Western is dry along with 103rd Street for a stretch there too. I'm in Oak Lawn too and I agree the area really needs a place like this (or 2) .

What ever happened to that brewery that was supposed to open in Beverly, on Western?
They had a sign up on a fence for a LONG time, but nothing ever became of it.

I lived on Western at 109th (east side) for a while and don't recall bars on the east side... West side was full of drunks at 2am...

I'll definitely check this joint out once the doors open. I would have loved a place like this when I went to St. Xavier.

+1 to Maple Tree, or Chucks BBQ. There was supposed to be a brewery on Western but the funding fell through/some sort of lies were going on and it didnt happen.... and now were stuck with a glow in the dark minigolf course

I just got an invite for a special "construction party" they're hosting on Sept 15. They handled it through their FB page. It sounds like things are moving along.

Please do. Was an invite required or can anyone just stop by? I have nothing going on on this lovely day.

    *edit
Ah I see that you had to get on their FB page early on to get an invite. Oh well its a great day for the event, have fun and tell us how it goes

I went to the construction party last night with my wife. It truly was a party in the midst of construction, as they've still got a long ways to go. The old rug store has been gutted, and the exposed brick and beams look real nice. Some of the plumbing and electrical are roughed in, but it will be awhile before they are ready to open.

BeerThey had five offerings on tap. Upon entry you were given tickets for four tastes. The pours were into clear plastic cups, I would estimate at around 8 oz. Here's what they had:
Western Ave Wheat- An American style wheat hopped with Citra. For my wife, who's not a big beer drinker, it was her favorite.
18th Rebellion (?) Kolsch- Not very memorable, but nothing really wrong with it, either.
Kitchen Sink American Pale- This was my favorite of the evening. Seven variety of hops, dry hopped with Cascade. Very refreshing and sessionable, not very bitter, but the hops really work well together. Only drawback is I would have preferred a little more body, it started to taste a little watery on the finish.
Black IPA- I'm not a huge fan of the style, but I enjoyed this one. A little bit of caramel sweetness gave it a zip. Again, not overly bitter, but very refreshing.
Chickory Coffee Stout- I did not try this one. I don't like coffee and have tried lots of coffee stouts over the years (FBS, Speedway, Coffee Bender, HUB Survival) and have yet to have one that wasn't a drainpour for me, so I didn't bother. While the others were on tap, looks like this was in wax sealed bombers.

    Food
Bruschetta - this was excellent. Tasted very fresh and paired with goat cheese.
Cole Slaw - This, not so much. The veggies tasted fresh, but it was underseasoned and very little sauce. Tasted just like raw shredded cabbage.
Shredded Pork - Great flavor, tender and moist, but would have liked a little more sauce.

Overall, it was a good time, and free food and beer is always a good thing. I'm looking forward to the open, but am not expecting it for a few months at the least. It will be great to have a new brewpub on the South Side.

I'm getting excited for the opening, which is supposed to be "by the holidays."

Really hope this place is a hit.
