British island seeking new pub manager and monarch

    “Piel Island is a 50-acre plot of land about a half mile off the northwest coast of England … the island is looking for a new person to manage the pub and take on the ceremonial title and rusty saber of king.”

    Of note:
    • “Whoever is in charge of the pub is crowned ‘King of Piel’ in a ceremony … which concludes with buckets of beer being poured over their head.”
    • “Any punter who unwittingly sits on the throne has to buy drinks for everyone.”
    • “‘Even if you’re pissed out of your head the views from Piel are pretty amazing,’ said Murphy. ‘I must have slept on every blade of grass on that island, drunk or sober, and I just love it.’”

    Ya know, I was gonna post something about Bert and Harry, being from Brooklyn were probably small-d democrats and against Kings in general, be them so-called Royals or Kings of beer. But I figured the thread might have too many OT memes already.

    But the "real" Piel Bros., :wink: Gottfried, Michael and Wilhelm, were from Dusseldorf, Germany, immigrating to Brooklyn in the 1880s.

    I think this is the island that CBS' 60 Minutes did a story a few years ago. There are some colorful characters who live there. It looks like a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't live there. I'm officially removing my name for consideration for this position.
