Totally stoked for this, an actual brewery in Bergen County. Just a few miles from my place, it'll be a second home

I would call their stuff I've tried "solid" which I think is what a place specializing in traditional British ales would want. No?

Absolutely. Can't really ask for more. Might need to take a trip down to see them to check them out.

That's awesome! Great to hear they were willing to let you in and sample even before they're officially open. Hope to see some of you tomorrow night at Dog & Cask. As I mentioned in a previous post, I'll be wearing the same hat as in my profile pic. If you see me, don't hesitate to come up and say hi. Always enjoy having a few beers with fellow BA's.

Just a little update for all those attending the Dog & Cask event tonight. The bar manager is a friend and he checked in on Untappd some (probably not all) of Brix City's beers that will be poured tonight as he was tapping them late last night.

Here's what the lineup looks like to wet your whistle:

Saint Stephen - Farmhouse Saison/Table Beer (ABV ?)
Gloria - Blonde Ale (5.6% ABV)
KTK - Double IPA (8.5% ABV)
Chuck Bowman - Black IPA (ABV ?)
Brews Willis - IPA (ABV ?)

    Cheers!

Just got here, in retrospect having this during happy hour on a Friday may not have been the wisest move. Place is jam-packed and not with people who care about Brix City.

I got there at 5:50 and left at 6:30. It was jammed and had no place to sit and enjoy anything. Though I was next to 2 local guys who said it was the most packed they had ever seen it.

On a plus side Brix stuff is pretty good. For being first kegs out they really impressed me. I expect good things from them.

Yup, definitely a mad house in there tonight. Glad to have met up with @markgugs for a few and sorry to not have seen you @dymmig89. As you said, a bit of a shit show in there. Definitely tough to even get a seat let alone find people.

With that said, I was real impressed with Brix City's offerings. As you mentioned, these were the 1st kegs out and, with that in mind, I have to say I walked away pretty optimistic.

Best in my opinion was KTK, their Double IPA. It was juicy and sweet with gorgeous citrus notes (mainly mango, pineapple, etc..) and EXACTLY the type of beer this area needs. Brews Willis, their IPA, was nice. Definitely more along the lines of what has become a session these days at 6% ABV, it was super crushable but could use a bit more aroma via dry-hopping.

Chuck Bowman, their Black IPA, was super solid, although again, could use a little more aroma. Mouthfeel was right and it definitely felt a little bigger than 7%.

Lastly, Gloria, what they call a blonde ale, was a total hef through and though. Cloudy as all hell (in a good way), it was a banana bomb and super drinkable.

Overall, I'm super excited. If all these beers were batch 1, these guys will continue to get better and better as they hone their craft. Can't wait to frequent the tasting room once it opens in a few weeks.

I got there early and had to stand in the coner near the kitchen entrance and bathrooms. Thankfully the two guys sitting at the bar in front of me were very helpful and accommodating allowing me to order beer without a hassle.

Their single IPA stood out to me. The double was great and probably my favorite. But not many breweries pull off a really good single IPA. Usually just pure hops. Theirs was very well rounded and kept some of the fruitiness of the double IPA.

The porter on cask with cherry was also well worth it. They have the porter mouthfeel down. Not russian imperial stout but def not watery ale

You know, now that I think about it a bit, you're right about the single IPA. It was super balanced and definitely had a nice fruitiness to it. I guess I'm just used to that whiff of pure hops from even single hop IPA's these days. Missed the cask and I feel like a fool for not grabbing one as I heard it the cherries they laid it down on really popped.

I asked on FB about cost. $5 for the growler glass and $10-15 depending on beer. No sizes were given.

It's been more than two weeks since I was there, when they were still busy setting up. They might have moved things around, but my guess is their tasting room will easily accommodate those of us on this thread and the expected family and friends who will show up. Should be no trouble fitting us all in...until the word gets around. I really liked that Brews Willis IPA.
