I didn’t find Couverteur that interesting and would probably not buy a bottle of it. When I’m in the mood for a dubbel I think I will still reach for a bottle of Westmalle.

No, no one is freaking out. If you read the list of beers here: http://www.thebruery.com/reservesociety/2014.html it says Oct. Were you expecting to get this early or something? Why would we be "freaking out" we haven't gotten it yet? I'm confused.

It's actually one of the beers I am looking forward to the most. Rum barrel beers are hit or miss, but when they hit.....I love them.

I'm pretty sure @CAbeerCAbeerCA was being sarcastic, knowing darn well that BT doesn't come out til October.

Totally forgot about that one! See there are still reasons to be excited. Three more HS beers, two mystery beers, S.H.I.T., Mash & Coconut, Tart of Darkness with vanilla & cherries. Actually I think Rum BT is what I'm least looking forward to of all of these.

I'm definitely looking forward to ToD with vanilla and cherries!

Isn't it 5 more HS beers? There still is those two Pilot beers they added to HS after the fact, no?

Can July be our Oude Tart, Tart of Darkness and Bourbon Smoked Rye take a breather month? June was brutal on the wallet.

Glad to hear that they moved the beers out of sight. Having all of those bottles that I can't buy stored in plain view regularly fills me with an uncontrollable nerd rage.

Was just there, looks really nice. I think moving things out of the tasting room will benefit both people making pick ups and patrons of the tasting room.

Lucky for you, I got an inside tip on what the mystery beers are this year:
Mystery Beer 1 - Double Barrel Smoking Wood, a shockingly delightful blend of bourbon SW and rye SW
Mystery Beer 2 - Smokey de Lente, a delightfully shocking blend of SW and Saison de Lente

Sorry to spoil the surprise, but I figured you could use something to look forward to!

September is far more interesting to me than August (although I'm hopeful for Mash & Coconut), since it will answer a few pretty big questions:
    1) White Chocolate - Have they figured out how to safely put adjuncts in ~15% ABV beers?
    2) Ignis Fatuus - Can they come up with new recipes that are well received, since most of this year's notable new, non-blended beers (Tumescence, Soroburuo, Couverteur) haven't exactly been lighting the world on fire?
    3) Mystery Beer - If they release something big with this, it could do a lot to sway some of the people who are on the fence about renewing.

I'm curious to see if they do HS renewals in August again, since there's not a lot on the calendar for people to get truly excited about. If I was in their shoes, I would want to drop an awesome mystery beer, a new recipe, and an uninfected White Chocolate on the HS before asking them to plop down $700.

^So much this. I have to believe that White Chocolate will have so much quality control and attention to detail this year. If it's a train wreck like last year, then it would signify that that they simply can't control the issues that they're acutely aware of. More importantly, it would be a sign that we're in for more "infection roulette" moving forward.

I'm pretty optimistic about WC being great again. That being said, I'm buying tasters before I buy.

Hopefully they offer samples from the bottles like they did with the RDF/FDR.

Looks like they are taking ideas for the second Hoarder's Pilot Series beer:

    Good morning Hoarders,

As you know, we're currently working on a beer inspired by an Old Fashioned as the first of your exclusive pilot series beers. We'll send you an update on how exactly we're going about creating this beer soon, but in the meantime, check out this great website to learn how to make a truly old fashioned, Old Fashioned.

Today we are asking you one question: what exciting ideas do you have for the second pilot series beer that you'll receive this year?

We want you to be as much a part of the creative process as possible, so we're letting you fill out an open ended question with any ideas that you might have. We'll sort through the concepts and send out a second survey that narrows it down to the top 4 or 5 ideas. We'll select ideas based both on the concept as well as the feasibility of the concept.

Can't wait to see what crazy ideas you come up with!

It is really refreshing to see how eager they are to listen to our ideas. Very curious to see what gets selected for the vote.

They're listening to our ideas, with the caveat that it needs to be done within six months (realistically, more like five months so it can be ready to go in early December). That means that it needs to either be something that's quick to turn around, or an adjunct/blended version of BA beers they keep on hand (anniversary, sour blonde, BT, or of course Smoking Wood). I'm hopeful for an awesome beer, but I think it's worth keeping the logistics in mind to temper some of the excitement of being given free reign to throw out ideas.
