based on where it falls I'd say it won't be a sour or wild beer. Maybe a clean belgian style since that wikipedia article makes a lot of references to the devil and satanism it could be something along the lines of Duvel. You've piqued my interest though.

If it was going to be sour, wouldn't it be under Terreux?

2014 Society thread is locked, so I'll ask here...

Anyone recall when they refunded the $20 to our accounts for the SHIT debacle? I'm not sure I ever received it.

On a side note, cracked my Ignis fatuus last night. Nasty. Infected. We should get a refund for that one too.

My credit card statement shows it processing on 12/22/14. Amount is $21.60.

Yeah, they never acknowledged that one and people on here argued that it was isolated to a few bottles. Take that as you will.

My last two bottles of Ignis were infected too. :slight_frown:

How they get away with this stuff is mind boggling. Here...pay way too much for an infected beer, that we'll never admit was infected. Or maybe it was meant to be sour? Cuz who doesn't love a good sour imperial pumpkin porter?

Ha. And it wasn't a good sour. Cacaonut was one they owned, refunded, and made right, and to be honest, there was a couple month period where that beer turned into something pretty amazing before going downhill for good. Ignis, not so much.

For what it's worth, I had my Ignis in mid-January and there was no sign of infection. Practically no sign of spices either. Tasted like a fairly standard imperial porter.

I have also heard that ToD with Cherries and Vanilla is infected. I haven't touched my original allocation, so I would be very sad if this is true. Anyone drink one recently? Granted this was on a random IG post, but I'd still like to know.

    Is that a joke...?

ToD with Cherries and Vanilla is meant to be a sour beer. What would it be infected with and how would you even tell?
I had one a couple of weeks ago and it tasted like it should, granted the vanilla had faded a tiny bit.

No, it's not a joke. When I talked to him about he said it was tasting absolutely awful, nothing like when he had it at the source. I know it's sour beer, he said it was almost Upland like in its taste.

I open one up last week and it was tasting amazing. It was the winner of our tasting.

Maybe infected was a poor choice of words, but overly acidic? Either way, crown me with the stupid helmet.

here's a possibly dumb question from someone who doesn't drink many sours.. is it not possible for an intentionally sour beer to get unintentionally infected with another strain of bacteria, thereby screwing everything up? or does one always overtake the other? genuinely curious

It is possible from a few perspectives:
    1) A bacterium or yeast that you didn't want in the beer can get into the beer and screw up the blend of organisms that you were going for.
    2) A bacterium or yeast that you pitched could just flat out not perform as expected and die out before it did what it was supposed to do.
    3) Bacteria and yeast in sour beers can go through phases where they taste and/or look disgusting. Pedio is specifically notorious for this where it gets ropy/slimy but eventually is cleaned up by Brett.

I thought ToDwCaV tasted just fine the last time I opened a bottle, but it's possible that there's bottle variation and/or something has happened since I last had it.
