I'm thinking it was more of a lottery kind of thing.

Nah, let's get more hoarder intrigue going by speculating that it's based on who they like best

I miss the good ol days where the 12 days of Bruery and Archiversary were full of great beers. My wallet doesn't miss those days though. Now it seems like they are mostly just dumping old inventory that is on the verge of becoming unsellable. Still, I guess it's probably great for people who haven't been members for a long time.

I was lucky enough to snag one...I did not put in a request for an additional box until the day after the email went out so maybe it really is a lottery

Devil's advocate: isn't that a function of how long you've been a member? Was the cool old stuff you used to buy an inventory dump in someone else's eyes? Or do you think they used to be more purposeful about holding back inventory?

Thanks for these comparisons, hopefully some of these small batch variants will have larger production down the road....

Or if the system let people access allocations for things like the anniversary sale one minute earlier per year they been in the societies. Sure that would be pretty damn hard and impossible but would be nice. that way they could put up vintage beers for us that have been around for a while.

I guess that’s what I get for complaining about Offshoot not making enough West Coast IPAs.

No doubt this contributes to my feeling. That's why I think these sales are probably still cool for new members.

Yes and no. Some beers were still viewed as inventory dumps, but it's worth remembering that for the first couple years, limits for some beers tended to be lower and the Bruery just wasn't producing as much beer as they are. Even having something like BT come back up for sale was a welcome sight for a lot of people due to its limited nature, while you can pretty much buy as much as you want year after year at this point. There are a variety of other minor factors that play into how the archive sales are perceived - some entirely out of the Bruery's control - but they were definitely more attractive back in the day, even when you consider member tenure.

I mean, on the other hand two of the three "archive releases" for today were first released earlier this month. Even a new member can't be too excited about a chance to buy more Chocolate Rain...

Variant idea: Purple Rain - Chocolate Rain aged in wine barrels OR boysenberry CR.

I'd be down with some Port Chocolate Rain, that would be some delicious fluid right there.
