I am in the process of actually doing an inventory of what is in my cellar. God knows whatever is in there it is way too much, but that is another conversation all together.

Question is how the fuck does one tell different vintages of Bruery beer apart? Aside from Black Tuesday which has different ABV and I think the labels are slightly different as well.

I particular Melange 3 and Sour in the Rye are the ones I most care about about.

    Anyone, anyone, Patrick, Patrick?
    Cheers

I've heard that Melange #3 has a slightly different wax color one year. No clue on SitR. I highly suggest going back in time and marking them when you buy them.

Do they even age? They're basically liqueurs.

Ha. Good luck with it. I had the same head scratching moment the other day when going through boxes.

At a recent bottleshare we did a 3 year vert of SitR - if I recall correctly, the oldest one had an unlabeled cap. I think we just guessed for the two newer vintages though. =p

I'm too lazy to look it up, but melange three has different abv's by vintage.

Isn't one of the perks of Hoarders having Ben show up at your house to inventory your cellar for you?

This is why I labeled all of mine.

I looked at the most recent vintage and the prior, as I just received my allocation of the most recent last night, and they both showed abv of 15%. SitR, however, does have varying abv from year to year. At least the first couple vintages did.

The 2011 and 2012 Melange3 I have do have a slightly different color. I wouldn't have noticed it unless I had them side by side in storage though. It's a very slight difference.

    2010 Melange 3 - 15.5%
    2011 Melange 3 - 15%
    2012 Melange 3 - ?

    Pretty sure these are correct...
    2010 Sour in the Rye - 10%
    2011 Sour in the Rye - 8.7%
    2012 Sour in the Rye - 8.8%
    2013 Sour in the Rye - 7.8%

False, 2011 and 2012 have the same ABV. But I will take a picture when I go to my cellar tomorrow to show the difference in waxes, it's subtle, but visible. 2011 is more traditional red, 2012 more burgundy.

I have a 7.8% SitR, which I believe to be from 2012 only because I have not picked up my 2013 allocation. However the 2012 allocation email states that it is a 8.7%. Maybe a copy/paste error from 2011?

SitR has only been bottled for 3 years now.

That's funny, because the M3 they shipped to me has wax colors that could match those descriptions. Seems unlikely that they sent me mixed-up years.

Haha, yea, them not putting dates on them frustrates the hell out of me. But I do write when i get them in silver sharpie on the bottom of the bottles so I'm not messed up. Like I said, I'll post up a pic, but maybe you just got super lucky.

Ice seen that with this years batches as well. One color is certainly different but the other matches last years batch perfectly

I think '11 & '12 Melange have a different curvature of the ABV text in the lower left part of the label. '12 has a rightward curvature, while I believe 11 had a leftward curvature. This could be completely wrong. We drank our last '11 m3 a couple weeks back

The fact that threads like this (and "Which BT do I have?" threads, etc, etc) keep popping up is just asinine on the Bruery's part. PUT. THE. VINTAGE. ON. THE. LABELS. ALREADY.
