Wine barrel aged BT is not comparable to the beer / wine hybrids they've done. One is a beer and the other is...not.

I’m thankful this month is light for RS, the past three I’ve spent a ton of money. I gotta grab some Train to Beersel, that’s such a wonderful beer.

For me, it has been. I don't buy sours or anything with wine.

Has been slow for me too. Need a break from the stouts. I’ve gotten a couple deliveries since COVID started but have been slamming MT lagers like water. Hint hint Bruery

Think I’m getting some ruekeller and onus this month though. Had a Spontanaheim and Reuze Reserve on Sunday and easily favorites from Terreaux for me.

Has anyone tried the new WC offshoot dropped yet?

I literally just ordered a case of it... I wish they made it easier to mix it with Bruery cans in shippers, I was trying to buy two for packs and a couple of four packs of Bruery cans, and the shipping would have cost $38 vs just $10 for four Offshoot packs. I can’t wait to try it!

Pro tip: add an $18 flex shipper and select pickup.

I agree, that sounds frustrating, you guys that are not down the street for pickup or loakal delivery have my sympathies.

Let us know how it tastes!!

I get that... what I don’t get is why is it only $10 for An Offshoot 16-pack, but $18 (or what I was initially quoted, $38) for a mix?

It’s ultimately not a big deal, and I kinda get why they’re doing it (trying to keep Offshoot separate from The Bruery), but let’s face it... Offshoot = The Bruery... make it $10 for any 16-can shipper. I get wanting to hold true to the promise of The Bruery not making an IPA, but f’ing Monkish used to have a sign saying as much, and as soon as they saw the promise of some green, they caved quicker than the East Coast Conference in the early 2000’s NBA. At this point, it just makes logistics more difficult.

BTW, this is the biggest rant I’ve made about the Bruery in about 6 months, and it’s super minor... that tells you pretty much all you need to know about how I feel as a member... very satisfied as a member.

Okay, this, and DON’T GET RID OF THE VIRTUAL HAPPY HOURS YET!!!! I ALREADY MISS THEM!!!!

In other news, April Showers was yummy! Like an oak aged Imperial Mischief. Loved it! A bit dangerous!

It really is. I also think One Blend Terreux is massively, massively underrated (that one wasn't released with much fanfare but if it had been 1/pp and waxed people would have gone nuts for it - it's so good). Both are great now and should improve with cellaring (and while I love the variety of Terreux beers I don't really think most of them would really benefit from aging - they're big and bold (and sour!) and will probably taste about the same now or 5yrs from now.).

There was a time last year when I was grumbling a little teeny bit about RS. This year has been absolutely killer. Great new stuff, interesting Library / Archive (especially nice Anniversary 3bottle packs). And best of all no issues with allocations being (for lack of a better word) poorly thought out. All good this year since 1/1/20

Really an awesome job from Bruery HQ. I am not buying as many of their beers as I did my first two years, but I'm truly enjoying my membership more than ever.

Anyone have Glenwort yet? Sounds intriguing but I’m curious just how scotch-like it is.

    Thanks!

Opened one tonight. I was expecting "interesting, but why?" but it's actually pretty darn tasty.

Tons of peaty Scotch flavor (perhaps obviously), but unlike other Scotch barrel beers I've had (looking at you Scotch Parabola) it's not overwhelmingly smokey and aggressive.

The beer itself is mellow and not hot despite being so fresh, and it's got a soft sweetness that works well.

I'm really impressed with this beer. If you don't like Scotch... why are you still reading? If you love Scotch, then like their cocktail beers you may very reasonably conclude "I'd rather just have a glass of Scotch." If you're like me where where Scotch is tasty but I'm not an expert and I rarely choose it over other options then I think you'll enjoy.

Had it last night. My expectations may have been too high, but I thought it was just okay and definitely too much for one person. I'll likely buy another bottle to age and share. FWIW, I enjoyed the Scotch Barrel 11 Pipers more, but I don't recall what exactly I liked about that beer other than it worked for me. I love Islay Scotch, and Glenwort definitely comes across with strong Islay character. So I'm thinking that 11 Pipers had a less aggressive Scotch barrel which worked better with that base beer. I also liked the Scotch barrel Poterie, but that was way too long ago to even try to compare with these two. Hoping someone else will weigh in on this.

That's kind of funny because Glen[morangie / livet / fiddich] don't use peated malt at all.

It would be nice to know if peat was involved in the Scotch or not, the last scotch barrel Bruery beer I had (can't even remember maybe 11 Pipers?) tasted didn't have any peat to it at all - which means it's basically just a reused bourbon barrel anyways. It would also be good for people who do or don't like peated whisky to look for or avoid said beers.

11 pipers definitely had a smoky flavor, I found that out after I ordered an extra two and before reviews weee posted on untappd, hopefully going forward “peat or smoke” is included in the description of the beers when ordering, reason why I only took the included bottle of Glenwort
