I was somewhat letdown by it. I had read somewhere that it was the same recipe as the 3 floyds special hoperations collab... sadly its nowhere near as good as that beer was.

 

Not the same beer at all, you got some bad info. Different SRM and hop bills. And not sure how you can be disappointed if you like WC IPAs, it’s fantastic.

 

Alpha Ambush is killer. Love it.

 

They had an IPL by the same name some time back?

 

Yeah I think that was a part of the COVID canning drops in 2020 that lead to Magical Mystery series. May have been a pilot/test for the Steel and Coal collab Matt did with Mitch/New Realm. Apparently the name stuck more than the beer.

 

I was disappointed only because I had such high hopes. Its a good beer, and better than 95% of most ipas on the shelf. I just hold fat heads in insanely high regard and it would still rank danklin, special hoperations 3 floyds collab, hop stalker and even fresh head hunter above it. Not hating on alpha ambush whatsoever, its good, i was just hoping to have my socks knocked off with this one but didn't.

 

I was surprised to see Hopslam show up on Friday in the south suburbs of Cleveland. Usually it’s the third or fourth week of January for us. It was just released at the brewery on Tuesday. 16 oz. cans, by the way.

 

I was also told this by their distributor. And I agree that it’s not the same beer. Still very good, though. Aroma is insane.

 

New ownership must be going for that max profits culture change already.

 

New distributor in Ohio. Turns out you can get beer from Michigan to Ohio in less than 3 weeks if you actually try.

Has the hop bill for it been published anywhere? I know the IPL of the same name was Citra/Mosaic but I didn't think the cans tasted like that.

 

This is 100% not news. But I love Ohio...it gave us Guided By Voices.

The reason for my post is my impulse buy of Hoppin' Frog's Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S. Oatmeal-Imperial Stout©, which touts a Gold Cup in the World Beer Cup from 2012, with the caveat that it was won under the name Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher Oatmeal-Imperial Stout© at that time.

This is the thirstiest can insignia I've ever encountered. I feel like @Sabtos might have thoughts.

 

LOL my friends and I make fun of their labels and descriptions all the time, they're all so similar and extravagant without being descriptive (awesome, tubular, stupendous flavors!). While they also usually tout every medal and achievement they've had, I didn't realize they did that with BA BORIS via BORIS. Although, fair to say, they might as well, considering the barrel isn't very present in that one.

Not a lot of their barrel work is long term, but the ones that are and are done well are worthwhile, like the recent 15th Anniversary, the Pentuple series, and as far as the Rocky Mountain ones go, the QORIS was my favorite. Almost all their strong ale and barleywine-like work is amazing.

I do think they've earned the right to brag on plenty of achievements, particularly their longevity and consistency, as well as of their more recent medals, and especially their efforts in abolishing our bullshit ABV laws in Ohio, but they always go a little cheesily over the top. At this point, it's basically their brand, and I doubt they'll ever change that.

 

I saw 450 North cans show up at my local so I decided to try one to see what all the fuss was about…

Not sure if I’ve ever been more underwhelmed by a hyped “beer” in my life. People were really paying outrageous prices for this? Tasted like any other overfruited kettle sour. I thought the Drekkar “beer” i had last week was better and 1/2 the price.

Ive had four different cans and they have been terrible. Unfocused sludge, the fruit isn’t even appealing. Tripping Animals, Great Notion, and HOMES make the only fruit purée I’ve really liked.
