I am not a big BL drinker but the potential of this is exciting:

Andy Goeler, vice president of marketing for Bud Light, is calling it the "next generation of light beer" in a new report

But Light is about to get even lighter.

Anheuser-Busch has announced it will release its first zero-carb beer called Bud Light Next in early 2022, according to CNN Business. They will be the first major brewing company to do so, too.

Andy Goeler, vice president of marketing for Bud Light, told the outlet that it took 10 years and more than 130 prototypes to create their latest concoction, which he called the "next generation of light beer for the next generation of beer drinkers."

"Today's consumers have got options of low calorie and low carb products, this is another entry to have something that goes all the way to zero carbs," Goeler said in the interview. "It's a big consumer trend we see across many consumer industries."

Goeler said the beverage is "light, refreshing and clean" with citrus notes.

10 years and over 130 recipes! Damn. That's even more than Maier's four years and 102 beers for their BREW 102. It must be good!

This beverage already exists. No need to further clutter up the BW&S aisles and coolers with some stupid-ass zero-carb "beer.":rolling_eyes::rolling_eyes:

I wonder if they will rehire retired football player Nick Mangold to block out the Bud Light portion of the label for this new product?

It will add an interesting dynamic to the "how to get drunk while maintaining a keto diet" debate.

Good to see they aren't resting on their laurels and are continually innovating new ways to cram no flavor into beer.

Hey show a little respect, they are really pushing the boundaries of removing all of the inherent flavors in beer. Its really quite a feat.

Revive Stone Justification Ale and the Atkins Diet trend will be back! I would commemorate the moment by ordering spaghetti and meatballs, double the meatballs and minus the pasta.

But real talk, Michelob Ultra is already in the family with 2.6g of carbs (Bud Light has 7g by comparison). It seems pointless beyond the first zero-carb beer achievement, especially when beer is a beverage made up of carbs.

I suspect that given the popularity of Michelob Ultra (see quoted material below) there is little chance this brand will be discontinued.

“Michelob Ultra is a top-tier beer.

When Anheuser-Busch announced its first-quarter results to industry members in 2019, it brought another win to light: Michelob Ultra became the third-largest beer brand in the U.S. That put it behind No. 1 and No. 2, Bud Light and Coors Light; leap-frogging over Budweiser and Miller Lite, which were previously No. 3. and No. 4, respectively.”

    https://vinepair.com/articles/michelob-ultra-carbs-calories-abv-guide/

To quote something I learned from the Assistant Manager of the Car Wash I worked at while going to high school: “Money talks, bullshit walks”.

    Cheers!

    From the article:
When craft brewers use that terminology, they tend to come off as more silly. I won't knock the beer without trying it, but the name is horrendous. There's a reason why Bud Light rolls off the tongue better than Budweiser Light, but they are taking the opposite approach here. Ordering one at a bar would make people feel like they are in an Abbott and Costello routine:

Customer: "I'll have a Bud Light Next."
Server: "OK, but what are you having first?"
    Customer: "A Bud Light Next."

Bud Light Zero would seem like a better name, similar to all of the "Zero"-sugar sodas, but that name is used by their Budweiser non-alcoholic beer.

    Maybe just go with "BLN"?

AD CAMPAIGN - Remember, you can't spell "bland" without B-L-N!

I mean, it worked for Pabst's "PBR" and for Molson Coors' (Canada only IIRC) Coors Light Iced Tea. Well, wait - maybe that second one didn't go over too well ... :astonished:

Why not just "Ultra"? If there's a Bud Light, Busch Light, Natural Light and Michelob Light*, why not a Bud Light Ultra and Michelob Ultra?

    * Is there still a Michelob Light or was that replaced by the Ultra?

This would run the risk of diluting the Michelob Ultra brand, and based on what I've read about it it cannot afford any more dilution.
