My local Kappy's Liquor store has a nice brew section available where consumers have the option from a variety of 6 packs and singles.

You can also mix and match, choosing any 6 beers you want whether they are sold individually or in a 6.

Build a 6, keep it reasonable based on your local availability.

Hypothetical or Actual? Because I'm going hypothetical (and I hope 16.9oz bottles are allowed because I'm throwing a couple into my hypothetical mixed 6)

    Grey Sail - Captain's Daughter
Maine Beer Co. - Another One
    Founders - Imperial Stout
    Jack's Abby - Kiwi Rising
Dogfish Head - Palo Santo Marron
    De Dolle - Stille Nacht

Yeah...that'd make for a delicious couple of days.

Used to do it a lot, a solid way of getting a good variety. Now the growler station keeps me pretty occupied, especially the ones with 18-24 plus tap handles.

I'm still sort of wondering what the OP wanted, or what "reasonable based on local availability" means in his or my context. But anyway, I feel the need to chime in (natch). 2 kinds of mix-6 that I can easily get.
Expensive kind: Go to great bottle shop that has over 100 rotating singles in their mix-6 area, but each bottle is individually priced -- you get 5% off the total for your 6. See stuff like 120 Minute, Pt5, etc. but you pay $15-$25 for the 6. Fun for experienced drinkers who are smart to test these as singles before delving into larger purchases, but not a "deal" by any other sense.
Non-Expensive kind: Go to big market with almost 200 options in their mix-6 area, any 6 for a straight price of $9.99 where I live. Perfect for people newer to craft, explore your styles, save a buck here and there. Also good for experienced drinkers, as you want to peruse this every time you're in the store, and see if some higher-ABVs jumped into the rotation for a cheap grab. Of the 200 options 140 of them are swill or extremely dated, or stuff you've had a million times already. But you are like me, and you always look (and you scorn the a-holes who thieve bottles from the shelves and jam them into mix-6's just to scam the store -- and the store is stupid for not designating mix-6-eligible bottles with a sticker, but that's their problem, whereas the a-holes have to live with their consciences).
    My latest 9.99 mixer was:
    Left Hand Fade To Black
    Bell's Amber
    Ballast Point Big Eye
    AndersonValley Hop Ottin
    Uinta Dubhe
    Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous

At Kroger today: Lagunitas IPA, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen, Deschutes Mirror Pond IPA, Sweetwater IPA, Great Lakes Commodore Perry IPA. Had to put the Lagunitas and Sierra Nevada on opposite sides of the sixer. Lagunitas wouldn't behave. I said "Don't make me come in there" but it didn't work.

no stores around me do a mix 6 pack that I know of, but a number of them sell single 12oz bottles that you can make your own 6pack (or 1 pack, 2 pack, 3 pack, 4 pack, 5 pack) but they charge per bottle so the 6 pack is usually $15+

Hmm... If my local Kroger suddenly decided to start offering mixed six-packs, I'd probably end up with something like this (pretty much just "a bunch of beers I've seen in the store and considered trying, but haven't gotten to yet.")

    1: New Belgium Portage
    2: New Belgium Slow Ride
3: Something from Sierra Nevada, probably the Pale Ale since I haven't had one yet
4: Something from Devil's Backbone... there's always at least a few from them available since I live so close to the brewery, but so far I've only gotten around to trying the Vienna Lager.
5: Something from Highland Brewing... I see the Gaelic Ale, Oatmeal Porter and Mocha Stout every time I'm at the store but usually I don't have the money (or sometimes, the fridge space) for a new six-pack at the time so I haven't yet gotten around to any of them
6: Finally, one of whatever other random thing stands out to me at the time! (There are a lot more than six beers on that Kroger's refrigerated shelf-thingies that I want to try, so it's hard to narrow it down. XD)

I'm guessing the list would be a bit different if I made a six-pack at the local beer/wine store--they seem to have a wider (or at least drastically different--I don't think I recall seeing any Miller Lite or similar in there, for example) selection there, and I've seen beer in there from breweries like Bell's and Founders that I see mentioned on this site all the time, but have never seen in the grocery stores around here. Same goes for the imported beers--I noticed a good bit of stuff that I've heard of but just doesn't show up in the grocery stores, like fruit lambics.
