Congratulations. You have reached the top of all bottom-fermenting beers. It's all downhill from here
well-done, @lucius10! Did you pick up any other yummy treats from the source? About a few months ago, Death & Taxes and Reality Czech started showing up at my local Trader Joe's. And since the pandemic I've done 99% of my grocery shopping at a Trader Joe's or other grocery store in the area, so I'm glad to see these.
Actually, even though I had their rice lager at the brewery and it was fantastic, for some unknown reason, I didn't pick up cans. I have been kicking myself ever since. But, I "tooootalllllly" redeemed myself by scoring the Mixed lager case this evening! https://moonlightbrewing.com/products/mixed-lagers-case?variant=35441365385288 Reality Czeck, D&T, and Side of Rice!!!! Yessir!!! 8 cans of each! Yippee!!!
From my limited lager experience, I totally agree! LOL! Although, thanks to recommendations from this thread and other BA'ers, I have tried some really good ones like this from Enegren! And this one!
Congrats @lucius10 , you just California lager'd with the best of them! Another really good pilsner in that area is Seismic Alluvium (I prefer it to Reality Czech, but that's a personal preference), they also make a black lager that's a little softer than D&T. Welcome to the wonderful world of lagerbier!
This was recommended by @bret27 in the ASB thread and I gave it a shot. This was a fantastic surprise coming from a brewery known for its hazy juice bombs and fruited sours!
Another delicious offering from these guys. I thought it was an ipa. Taste like it. Got this one from my bro-n-law the other day.
I have been very impressed with most of Enegren's offerings...I had this last night! When I heard of smoked lagers or rauchbiers, I was thinking that the smokiness was going to be a general "light a fire" kind of smoke...not the smokehouse meaty savory kind of smoke! LOL! Who knew!?! I'm such a newb...
No kidding? I don't shop that often at TJ's but a few months ago I was surprised to see two offerings from Enegren that I happily scooped up. The next time I went they had none. I have seen D&T a few times at the local WF.
New Glory - NGB Pils. Pretty OK. Has this sort of full, slick mouthfeel alongside prickly carbonation that isn't really doing it for me, and the flavor is a little to round. Enjoyable but it's not unseating any of my favorite pils
Finally the first Enegren that I don’t like - Maibock. It’s not terrible, but it kind of has a Malt Liquor taste.
Does anyone remember Sierra Nevada'/Ballast Point Hoppy Lager..that was an awesome beer. Wish they would make it again
I tell myself that I'm a real grown up and totally not an alcoholic because I haven't set up a weekly case delivery of they beer. I literally drank the first one I tried before I realized what was going on. I hadn't chugged a beer like that since I was a degenerate highschooler crashing college parties.
Just cracked my last Reality Czeck from my Memorial Day weekend stash. Still fantastic. Followed it with Monkish’s Italian-style pils, Sample Loop, a solid crusher.
Had a couple today. They really need to up their production of this beer and make it more available in cans.
Picked some up last week and forgot about it in my fridge. Holy crap this beer is absolutely fantastic! I think I prefer it over Timbo, and I REALLY love Timbo.
I went to Highland Park last week and picked up 5 or 6 different four packs of beers. Crosbo was my favorite of the bunch. Like you, Timbo has been a favorite of mine but I think I might like Crosbo even more.
Trademark Brewing out of Long Beach has a really excellent Czech Pilsner called Saaz Queen. Rumor has it their head brewer used to brew for Firestone Walker.
I was never really impressed with Trademark the few times I visited their brewery. Maybe I need to give em a third chance
From what I’ve heard, they brought on a new head brewer this year and she’s been changing up the recipes. Maybe give them a shot later this summer and see if you notice an improvement. I’ve only had a couple of their beers, but the Saaz Queen was really impressive. The owner of Stateside Crafts recommended it and said that with the previous brewer it was an alright beer, but whatever the new brewer did to the recipe significantly improved it.
Good to know. Their space is really nice, so I definitely want to like it. Guess I'll have to go back for science
Topa Topa Fifty cc Italian Pilsner is simply amazing. Picked up a 4 pack at Costa Mesa Windsor for around $13.99. Very clean and smooth. Yeah buddy.
This new Urban Roots Helles Lager was so good, I better post a pic in the Cal Lager thread as well. For when it is Hotter Than Hell outside.... HELL - German Style Helles Lager Bier
After I saw @atomicpunk5151 post this in the Urban Roots thread, I knew I had to track it down to give it a try...this might be my new favorite Helles Lager! This is absolutely fantastic!
