Or infected IPAs. #oopsour
I find them to just be crappy hoppy fruited sours. Saisons would be too generous.
think Combat Spandex from Hoof Hearted - Triple Sour IPA 11.4%
one of my favorite brews this past year.
whether or not you like it??
just finishing a Hoptimum
i find Hoptimum over the years to be hit or miss,
this years starts out a little unsure, proves its quality
Somethinng about your posts, and this line in particular, reminded me of an old roommmate who was.German. this must be a.truly authentic batch
im mexican irish english w/a german buddy named rolf
Only German when I drink tipas
I’d love to see the new trend in IPA’s go back to balancing a medium malt presence with a heavy kettle and dry hopped hop profile.
cold ipa not that good.
aka rice ipa
Kuhnen DRIPA disagrees strongly. Still one of my favorite all time ipas
Hazies overwhelming your shelves...want an old school take on the hop/aroma/flavor profile for a DIPA? Not sure how broad the distro will be on this, but Hop Shovel from Bear Republic is now available in cans.
Stand by my review of this brew after multiple tastings, and it lives up to its promoted attributes. Better like some malt backbone with plenty of bitter hops.
My one complaint, the "canned on" date is illegible on the can bottom, only legible is the "best by" date of 08/08/21.
i bet thats a 04/08 canned on.....you can simply email them to double check. I know Racer 5 is minus 6 months. Baba Yaga is minus 1 year, brewmaster told me so. Seasonals in the past were minus 4 months
i still have yet to try that one, dating part of that
Hope we get more bear republic. Its been spotty up here
Used to be wide spread up here in Oregon a decade ago..now you can find some stragglers in Grocery Outlet if your lucky.
Most good beer is very local nowadays the middle guys like Bear Republic have got squashed .
Another reason why i dont understand the forum change
And don't call ales lagers or lagers ales.
First Cold ipa. Now Soft ipa. Can we have an Ice ipa? I love these guys. Evan and Brian’s Cheeky beers are spot on. I guess I’ll have to try both them out today for lunch. What the heck. If all else fails I’ll get a pour of NP’s Art Is Hard. tgif.
Looking forward to this rICE ipa. Wonder if they used brown rice?
Do we need a Oregon west coast ipa thread? Or Washington northwest coast ipa thread? Can’t we all just get along west coast thread? Sorry.
The new Dank Before Dying WC DIPA, from North Park, is pretty incredible.
If they bottle dated that would be nice. I rolled the dice on a Racer 5 not too long back and it was dead. Would love to drink it fresh, but it seems like those days are over.
I enjoyed the Soft ipa
I get fresh Racer 5(just under a month) every now and then via TW HB, 12pack, simply subtract 6 months, easier to read box print
No kidding. A long time ago, Racer 5 was readily available and fresh, and it was very good. I see it every now and then, and rolled the dice a couple times only to be disappointed. Not fresh and not what I remembered. So, for now, the glory days are over and folks got the message to pass this one by and let it collect dust.
Bear Republic is the middle aged dude that refuses to get a smart phone and still used his Nokia. I won’t be surprised when they end up selling to INBEV. In fact, if it means fresh beer, I would prefer it.
lol, low blow
The Soft Ipa was okay. I prefer the cold over the soft. But not enough to purchase either to go. Their Happily Deceased is better than soft or cold. They got a new can release for tomorrow. I don’t recall the name, but it a ddh tipa. Again not interested in triples. Only if the hop profiles are right. Good lunch at GC.
Another tip I got, Brewery X is taking over an Alta Dena spot somewhere close by the area. Not sure if they’ll brew there. But a new tasting room for sure. Their original location is so huge I’m sure they’ll keep brewing in Orange/Placentia and bring over to their new Costa Mesa spot. There’s another new brewery coming in the area also. So looks like Costa Mesa will be number 2 hot spot after Anaheim for beer in OC. 2021 is looking better for OC.
The new Burgeon/Mcilhenney collab sounds good. Been awhile since I've tried anything from Burgeon, and while I'm usually not a fan of their hazy IPAs, I haven't really formed an opinion of their WC. The hop bill is solid
a couple years ago I enjoyed a solid Burgeon/Beachwood wc ipa via HB. fuck covid
WTF? They absolutely bottle date. Maybe not in the most convenient format, but it's there. Last time I checked it's at the base of the bottle.
hard to read, unable to read at times. not a strong part of bear republic
Completely agree, but one can't say there's no packaging date/info.
If you print black ink at the bottom of a brown bottle, I’m going to pretty much say that you don’t care about your product (and if you end of failing that’s on you). Russian River puts a very legible stamp on a white part of the label. How hard is that?
It's not in black ink, if memory serves correct its yellow on brown glass. I'll acknowledge their dating format sucks, but throwing shade for its absence is inaccurate. Not everybody has the resources of RR, nor pushes their degree of freshness (which is personally applauded). Hate on the format or its presentation, but don't say they don't care enough to package date. You chose not to look for it, and purchased anyway. That's on you, not them.
Its FAR more legible than Lagunitas or (previously) Breakside that did indeed date in black ink on the bottle neck, both in Julian format if I'm remembering correctly.
I would love for you to go purchase a bomber of Racer 5 and show me the date stamp. I searched all over that last Racer 5 bottle I purchased. Probably even more than they did for that Amelia Earhart chick.
I haven't seen a bomber of Racer 5 in well over 2+ years. Maybe that's the origin in the lack of package dating info, shits so old it pre-dates current packing protocol?
I live less than 70 miles from Healdsburg, so if they were a popular format and selling I'd expect to see them locally.
For those in the Bay area, the Ghost Town Pale Horse ipa is worth keeping an eye out for. I thought it was fantastic. Totally modern hop profile but in the west coast style.
i stand corrected on the "cold ipa",
it just Works
Cheeky name takes over, 2nd, 3rd cans better than 1st
latest batch of Hello LA is great and Mr. Hoppy from NP was really tasty too. a little late on both, but worth checking out.
North Park Dank Before Dying.
That's it, that's the post.
