I am not too familiar with what has landed a BA Dark lord, any variant really, but was wondering if a Bottle of the upcoming Chocolate Rain batch would get me close. Thanks for your time.

Batch 1 could pull a couple of the lesser variants. Other batches almost certainly will not.

I had to add to a Chocolate Rain for a Brandy DL last year. It was a very uneven trade in terms of what was sent and what I got, but I wanted a BA DL.

I barely trade or check on these forums and I can say with near certainty that the answer is no. People want a crazy amount of shit for those things.

Upcoming CR? Probably not a chance. The Hoarders and Reserve Society get multiple bottles and BA Dark Lord is still a game of luck.

With Kate's retirement, I think that BA DL is the new hardest to land 1000-ish annual bottle domestic release out there. It's a quirky count - enough bottles so that tons of people try to go for it, but not so many bottles that there are anywhere enough to satisfy the trading demand. Smaller releases like CFH fly under the radar a bit, and bigger releases are much easier to score. Any of the BA DL's are just really tough gets.

Sticker price is $40, but I don't think I a $10 beer will make this happen.

Well, not many of the Euro lambics people care about are that cheap, at least to my knowledge. Hence my asking, nothing occurred to me that made sense. Maybe OGV 375 is that cheap?

I would think that CR+OGV would have a solid chance, and if it were an older OGV it would definitely happen. But maybe that's just because CR and OGV are two of my top-10 beers...

How many different BA versions were done in 2011 and 2012? Anyone know? Just wondering.

I have a 2012 Bourbon Barrel aged Dark Lord #109 of 688. So there are:
    Bourbon DL
    Brandy DL
    Bourbon Vanilla DL
    And Cognac De Muerte
    Are those the different variants?

02 or 03 OGV (maybe 04) I'd imagine yes, and you might not even need the CR. For later vintages, I'd guess no. Maybe you could get one of the less desirable variants, though. (FWIW, Bourbon Vanilla cost me a Grey Monday plus another $80 of solid brewery-only / limited release stuff, which might make me the mental patient...)
