Looking to pick up some bottles of whatever Cantillon products might be available in or around Philadelphia. Anybody seen any recently, or have a tip as to where I might find some?

    Many thanks for any info.

You might want to try Local 44 or Foodery but I strongly doubt you'll have any luck. I personally haven't seen a 'loon at a store in over a year. I believe a few cases of Classic Gueuze hit a few months ago, but you can be rest assured those are long gone.

Hawthorne's had some Kriek, but that was in June. I'm sure it's gone.

    Damn. Thanks for the replies.

How about Shangy's? I would be willing to splurge on a case I think. I bought a case of Rose de Gambrinus there many years ago, but things have changed since then and I don't know if they're able to keep rare stuff like Cantillon in stock anymore.

    Thoughts?

you won't find any. whenever it does come here anymore, bottle shops usually hide them and reserve them for regulars. you used to be able to get them 'to go' at a bars and restaurants, but everyone has since stopped doing that. the last place i saw that still allowed them to go, and actually had some in stock was Devil's Den. you might want to stop there and see if they have any left - but i doubt it.

and you definitely won't be able to find a case. your best bet will be overpaying for a 750ml of classic geuze or rose de gambrinus, if you find it.

I've been here for over four years and have never seen a case of Cantillon at a distributor. I have heard of the elusive 6 bottle cases, but never seen them with my own eyes. I was at Shangy's a month ago and they definitely weren't packing. It's a shite state of affairs. I wouldn't be surprised if buying them online gets increasingly difficult as every time Cantillon is mentioned in the main forums, people constantly start listing all of the online stores that carry it.

    Wow. Guess I'm SOL.

10 years ago we had to seek out craft beer, but there was enough for everyone when it was found. Not anymore it seems. Cool that craft beer has become mainstream and ubiquitous, but kind of a bummer in some ways at the same time.

I hear ya. Shangy's always had plenty of Cantillon in stock (Gueuze, Kriek, RDG), but like I said, that was probably around 2002-03. Haven't been there in at least 5 years.

Two years ago, you could saunter in to a number of bottle shops and choose from several varieties of Cantillon. Myself and several others are kicking ourselves for not buying more when we could.

This is absolutely true. When I first discovered Cantillon, about 2.5 years ago, it would regularly sit on store shelves and there was no rush to buy it - I bought several bottles of Lou Pepe Kriek from the same store back then over the course of several months! It certainly wasn't easy to find, but if you knew where to look, it could be had. Somewhere around the beginning of 2011, however, something changed. I'm not sure if demand skyrocketed or supply diminished or both, but since then it's been nearly impossible to find the stuff anywhere.

You can sometimes find some at the Canal's stores in NJ.

I blame it on the Great Fou Foune Scare of 2010.

Well this is a depressing thread lol. I got a bottle of LP Kriek months back at Abe's in Bethlehem, but that sold out realllll fast even though they had it behind the counter. Guess trading is the only way.

Teresa's Next Door and Monk's always have a nice selection for onsite consumption, no takeout allowed, though.
