My fiancee will be in the Stamford area next week and I know that they sell Captain Lawrence in the area. Is the Pumpkin Ale just a brewery release or is it at the local stores. If it is, could you recommend a store that would have it.

    Thanks
    Mike

This past Saturday, I saw it on the shelves in a store in Dutchess County, New York. As for the Stamford area, I`m guessing Stew Leonards in Norwalk on Route 1 will have it (10-15 minute drive depending on traffic) from Stamford.

Thought this was just a brewery release, but would believe it if their pumpkin ale is being bottled now w/ the new facility and all......Good news if it is being bottled, haven't had the chance to try a pumpkin from the Capt.

    Cheers

Found some yesterday in tolland, which is in the northeast corner of the state. You should be able to find it in Stamford.

Has anyone seen this in the Stamford area (or somewhere in the 15 min radius of Stamford)? If so, could you be specific as to where as we are just visiting the area and are not familiar with the store names and locations. We will be there next week and would love to try to pick up this beer.

    Cheers
    Mike

Try Bev Max in Stamford, then if not there , try Port Chester Distributors in Port Chester, NY. Should only be about a 10 minute drive from the highway. I know they have it there, plus it is a solid location

Thanks for the Bev Max suggestion...I bought a lot of beer from Port Chester Dist and it was all skunked and went bad. It was a huge disappointment as I bought a lot of beer we can't get in Buffalo and had to drain pour all of them. Needless to say I would not buy beer from them again.

Really? Care to list which beers you purchased that were "skunked"?

I've definitely seen it at Anconas in Ridgefield (slightly out of your 15 mile radius) but I am sure it is around at any decent shop.

Sure the ones I could remember are

    AleSmith X IPA
Maine - Mean Old Tom and Peeper Ale

There were a couple from CCB and the Bruery as well. My friend and I are chalking it up to the building was really hot (it was in July) and the beers did not bode well from the heat.

Well, heat isn't the culprit for true "skunking"....that's typically caused by UV exposure. Beer generally goes through many stages of hot to cold and back between the brewery and the store shelves, so you'd likely experience this in most every beer you've opened if that was truly the case. Though, Port Chester's shelves are definitely exposed to a great deal of light....so it's entirely possible that they've been sitting out in direct sunlight for an extended period of time.

I'd imagine that those particular beers are also likely from older batches....(at least the Peeper and Alesmith)....not sure about the Mean Old Tom, though. I've personally never experienced a "skunked" stout, so that's a real head-scratcher.

I'm using the term "skunked" loosely. All I know was I had the Alesmith and Mean Old Tom before and this time they were undrinkable. What it boils down to is that between the 2 of us we spent close to a $100 of undrinkable beer and I wouldn't go back there. It could have been just a fluke thing as you are the 3rd or 4th person who is shocked by this and have shopped there without any problems.

Gotcha. Not saying that I haven't had issues with "old" beer there because I definitely have (Hell, I've even had the same issues with some of the best stores in the Northeast). I suppose that I just might be a bit more "tuned-in" to what is probably stale. I stop by at least once every few weeks to see what's new. A lot of times, I'll see the same bottles of IPA/DIPA, etc that have been collecting dust since their initial delivery months before. I tend to avoid these like the plague.

I do appreciate their mix-a-six options, though. Not too many stores in the area that let you break up just about any 4/6/12 packs that are sitting on the shelves.

I didn't think it was that bad, Jim. I found it to be subtle and not so "in your face".

That said, I got my 6er at the brewery right when it first came out, so it may have been fresher.

Yeah,I like my pumpkin beers with a lot more flavor. If I was doing a blind taste test,I never woulda guessed a pumpkin beer.....more like a simple session beer/amber.

Severely disappointed w/ Cisco Pumple Drumkin being contract brewed this year(FX Matt), as that and Smutty Pumpkin are prolly my favs. But that Ithaca Country Pumpkin is nice as well.

    Speaking of:grinning:oes DeCicco's carry Elysian?I am looking for Great Pumpkin,Dark o' the Moon,Night Owl.

    Cheers
