I think that this was for the deconstructed Bomb. All 4 of the stouts that make up the Bomb. I had it last year while out of state. The Coffee one was very good. I think a few other locations are getting kegs of all 4 too.

If it's something else I'll be there. The Bourbon Paradise is phenomenal.

Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Stout went around metro today along with more King Sue. 500+ CS for the state so a good amount of King, BBS was 2 CS at Prairie Trail. Also scooped up the Summit RIS.

Accounts getting full pallets of Decorah Sue will get them Monday, includes PT, Mills, Urbandale. There were some others but can’t recall which, those taking less will see later in the week. The Prairie BA beers will also deliver next week.

I assume this Sue is the stuff that was canned 4 weeks ago? Sure hope that is not the standard going forward.

While 4 weeks is not ideal, if there's one thing I've learned about TG pale ales and IPAs, they hold up for quite a while.

I'm under the impression that Iowa won't be getting Bourbon Paradise, since it's above the legal ABV limit. Anyone know if there's truth to that?

Wife got me a crowler of Barn Town's Pulp Non Fiction. Definitely in my top 5 beers of 2017. Next up today, BT's Field of Dreams, and the latest bomber of TG King Sue!

The last batch of pulp was great, but I think hop skewer might be a little better.

King Sue is kinda thin and not that great this time? Am I the only one thinking that? When I had it this spring it was thick and luscious. Kind of a let down.

It was a touch thin but I thought aroma and taste were pretty on point.

It was good. But that spring batch was amazing to me. Remember buying a bunch of bottles as I couldn't get enough of it.

I thought it was one of the better King's I've had in a while. The last few I tried were kinda ho-hum.

Does Decorah Sue look different than FL Sue? I walked by a bunch of Sue at Urbandale on Saturday, assuming it was the FL junk. :slight_frown:

Decorah Sue is in boxes (like Surly's packaged 4pks). And there's a bunch going around the metro this morning.

Looks like they're also taking the Stone approach. Can dating on the cans...then putting said cans inside of a box without a date on it. I like that Surly has a space on their boxes with the canned date.

EDIT: I didn't study the box, so I could definitely be wrong, but I did not see any sort of date while I was in the checkout line.

No date on the box, and no dates on the cans once I opened the box.

$9.99 at the Prairie Trail Hy Vee.

The odd pricing continues, these same 4 packs were $12 at the brewery this past weekend.

They have always cost s buck or two more at the brewery when I've been there the past few years.

Correct. Sue has been $12 a 4-pack at the taproom since the first truck from Florida. So people are actually complaining about having much better beer available for the same price without knowing it.

That's one way to combat people not buying a 4pack because of a 4 month old can/box date.

Mostly just thought it was odd that they do that pricing on the four packs at the brewey, but the bombers tend to be cheaper there compared to distro, at least in my experience.

  26. DCintheMSP

    DCintheMSP (0) Jan 8, 2014 Minnesota

I would buy multiple 4 packs at $7.99, I thought this batch was great.

Mike just said on Twitter they don’t have printer working yet. Said batches going out now were canned last week.

It's 13%, right? Iowa allows for a maximum of 15%.

Good deal. I thought I had read they were going to have a printer...hopefully folks were able to pick up on sarcasm of selling old Florida product.

Correct. Their bombers are always cheaper at the taproom. They aren't concerned with underselling their local market for those. New Glarus does something similar, but I think they overprice all their distro beer at the depot, not just the heavily distroed stuff like TG.

BA and Untappd both list Bourbon Paradise at 15.9%. Maybe they'll do what Avery does and drop the ABV to exactly 15% (e.g. Rumpkin)

Picked a 4 pack up in Waukee for $9.99. Overall, it’s wayyyyy better than the stuff from FL.. I still think there is a little difference; however, it’s a lot more jucier and hazy than the FL stuff!! Good price point, I will be a regular.

Belated thanks... ended up grabbing the last two six-packs at Whole Foods in West DSM. As you suggested, every HyVee in the metro was out.

    It's yeast/hop matter. It's normal in beer.

Drank some side by side with Barrel Theory's Citra this weekend, and you could really see the difference between a uniformly cloudy beer (BT Citra) and the Decorah Sue, with yeast/hop matter suspended in it. Like you said, it's normal

FWIW, I thought the Sue cans weren't dramatically better than Florida Sue. I like Florida Sue a lot more than most though. It's worth the price (especially if you're getting it for $7.99), but it doesn't seem like what you get on tap in Decorah to me.

The first can I had, I really enjoyed and thought there was a major difference. I had one last night and it tasted like they slipped a Florida can in. Was not pleasant. I'm sure it'll take a few batches for Mike to hone in on how he likes Sue.
