I live in Louisville and find myself coming up to Chicago more and more frequently by way of Munster, IN. On my first trip, I went to just about all of the top rated bottle shops on here. I found that Binnys had the most to offer for me. Since then, I have always gone to the one on Marcey St in Loncoln Park. Lakeview did not impress me when I have been. Ive never been to South Loop though. So my question is, which one do you go to the most? Im coming up there on Thursday and staying through Sunday for Lollapalooza and I plan on making the rounds. Im low on Lost Abbey and FW so I need to stock up with those. Need to just buy a case of the Ninja Vs Unicorn. That is bottled amazing-ness. Also looking for some more Central Waters and whatever else I cant get here thats new.

Anyone seen the Sweet Evil there?

Personally I go the the Binnys on Grand most often, mostly out of convenience. They definately had lots of Pipeworks in stock as of last Thursday. However the South Loop store is also great and probably the most convenient from Lolla, plus they have a taproom.

Here's a ranked list. Marcey St. is the best in the city imho, Algonquin is best in the burbs though Highland Park is 2nd after their remodel. South Loop is good, though some stuff tends to sit around there.

I've had good luck at South Loop getting beers (locals and others) that are hard to find elsewhere in town. I also like to press my face against the glass looking into the high end spirits room!

What is this 'Binny's on Marcey St.' you speak of? The only place I know in that area is Castle Vav. The best beer store in the Midwest.

Let me give you a good reason why South Loop is my favorite

Three Floyds - Amon Amarth Ragnarok
    Bell's - Black Note
Dogfish head - 2010 Olde School Barleywine

All on tap right now. Their tasting room has much more to offer and is usually quite amazing.

Gonna have to assume the high marks for Bolingbrook are due to small sample size? 'cuz their beer selection has really contracted over the past few months.

Well I can see that you guys are torn at times

I think I'll keep with the Lincoln Park if I can only do one. They have ordered things for me before and gotten things I couldn't get elsewhere. Al for an out of towner!

    Thanks guys!

Are you sure this is accurate? I feel like they've had this list up there for a while. I was there last week and didn't see Black Note on tap.

Ah thank you. Dunno why that information is just not copied to their actual taplist page

Still an amazing taplist. Gonna have to stop in for some Ivan & crazy FFF beers

Both South Loop and Marcey St (Castle Vav) are excellent shops. But, you should also check out West Lakeview Liquors. Excellent selection there also. Those are my three favorite stores.

It's worth nothing that while Lincoln Park or South Loop may have a wider selection, they are also more likely to be out of limited releases. I've seen beer at the River North store that had been gone for weeks (or maybe just days) at Lincoln Park. So, depending on what exactly the OP is looking for, a few stops might be helpful.

Binny's south loop has taps, a huge selection, and you can go across the street to Manny's and have a sandwich the size of your head.

I plan on seeing if I can sneak a walk to more than one of them while im there or before we leave. I hate that they close so freakin early though! Im looking for the ones I mention in the first post and of course anything limited. Of particular interest is barleywine/wheatwine and old ales. And of course the hoppiest IPAs around
