I've only had last year's Sump, but I really liked it. I really like coffee stouts, and this checked that box very well. That said, I didn't like it enough to buy it this year because I have too much beer. :fearful:

Bitter Pops got it and Sump in last night, as well. I didn't go, so I have no idea if it's all still there, but they open at 11, so if it was there last night, you've got time to get some.

Binny's St. Charles had Sump yesterday late afternoon when I was there. At $21.99 it was an easy pass for me. But if you like Sump it's there.

22 bucks for a non-BA coffee stout is ridiculous. I've bought Sump in the past. I will not be buying it this year.

They are (very unfortunately) not doing growler/howler fills this year, but I still think Haymarket's Indignant line is one of the best deals in the city (last year their 2 year-aged BA stout was my favorite howler fill). $15 for a flight of 5 different versions of the beer (non-BA, 4 month, 11 month, 15 month, 25 month), and each is distinct and interesting.

A terrible idea before lunch (they're only doing the flight, as I made sure today), but a great deal otherwise.

I'd say the 25 month is better than Rev's VSOD, and I'm quite a fan of the latter.

I personally love Sump. I'd take it over Abraxas any day of the week (oh no!). But coffee stout is my favorite style. It's a fantastic impy stout base (thick, chewy, chocolaty) with tons of smooth, creamy coffee. But I agree with the above statements, the price point makes it hard to go out of my way for.

That flight sounds like a lot of fun.

This past summer one of big retailers in Ohio tapped 3 individual barrels of BCbS, and did a flight so you could taste the difference in each. I thought that was really cool, but did not get a chance to go.

This stuff totally flies under the radar. This is just as good as the Deth Tar's stuff.... Would love to try the hazelnut version.

In regards to Sump, it’s a great beer - but so is Founders Breakfast Stout. Is Sump better? Yeah, no doubt.

But Founders is probably 90% as tasty.

I have brought MMR out of state many of times,(especially the 2015 version) to bottle shares, and MOST of the peeps that have tried it are amazed by it. I do not understand why BA MMR does not get any recognition as one of the better ba stouts in the Chicagoland area? It is amazing! In an Ol Dirty Bastard voice: " MMR is for the children!"

I totally forgot about the Indignant flight this year. Was out of town for the anniversary. You think the flight will still be available the early part of next week?

I guess I'm part of the problem, but I dropped the money for a bottle of Sump. I'll split it with a couple of buddies and it's not much different than some of the bar pricing with some of these 5oz pours. It helps that I exerted almost 0 energy outside of asking if they had any in stock.

I have to admit that a did feel like a bit of a tool needing someone to grab it from the back when there are literally 500+ beers sitting on the shelf. I had a good laugh with the beer guy and he was nice enough to present the beer to me as a sommelier would present a nice bottle of wine...minus the cloth napkin.
