$10 for 32 oz. of this beer is pretty ludicrous, honestly. From a bigger brewery this would be its own thread.

Showed up at 8:15 with two howlers and Clare's was gone. So, uh, that was fun. Was told it will not be back on tomorrow.

This is what I've been grappling with as well. I'm thinking maybe a trip over for lunch could be in order tomorrow, although I'm pretty swamped at work this week.

I'm personally hoping to like it more than Night Fights (BA Impervious w/raspberries).

EDIT: looks like that lunch trip won't be needed.

A limit of 4 howlers might not have been such a bright idea (from a consumer point of view anyway).....

Wow, out already? I didn't even consider that being an issue, because who puts a 4-howler limit on a beer they can't keep on tap 4 hours?
From my recollection last year, Clare's is slightly more bitter and hoppy than Night Fights. I'm leaning towards liking NF more, but that's because I like really sweet stouts with low bitterness. I would not be surprised if most people like Clare's more, because I have a relatively low appreciation for bitterness.

Do we know if they'll have anything else special on tap tomorrow at 5, or was this pretty much it?

I wasn't impressed by Clare when I last had it, which was a few years back. Night Fights though, was awesome. You'd think the draw from having the beer on draft would far outweigh any money from howler sales....

They mentioned on a FB post they will have 5 vintages of Indignant tomorrow. Likely other things as well I'd think...

Was gonna check this out, guess that ain't happening. Ill have to keep Clare on my radar. $10 for a ba stout that size is almost inconceivable.
On a different note I keep seeing the BA Richie and feel almost guilty not picking up a bottle. I think they're the cutest little things. I like my bottle last year, but selling them at $6 per 12oz is genius.

Indignant is really all I'd need (assuming they have some of the longer-aged versions). I'm hoping they'll do growler fills like last year.

    Thursday Tappings:

    5pm: Indignant Flight (no growlers)

5 vintages of Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

    34 months, 30 months, 18 months, 14 months & 7 months

5:30pm: The Sun Comes Up Tomorrow coffee I.P.A . 5.4%

    ($10 growler fills)

Our friends at Passion House Coffee have come through again, providing us the perfect roast to go in a centennial and citra hopped IPA. We let 10 pounds of whole bean Ethiopian Yirgacheffe steep in the fermenter after we cold crashed the beer, essentially cold brewing. This method allowed the IPA to maintain its bright golden color while providing coffee notes to both the aroma and flavor.

6:00pm - Toby wan Kenobi Schwarz beer ($10 growler fills)

6:30pm: 'Big Bird' Imperial American Belgo Rye I.P.A. 9%

    ($10 32oz growler fills)

A bigger, angrier, hoppier version of our 2011 Great American Beer Festival® Gold Medal award winning Angry Birds American Belgo IPA. This huge, spicy and hoppy Belgian Strong Golden ale was brewed with 30% Rye and hopped and dry-hopped with over 5 lbs per barrel of Amarillo!

    7:00pm: Call Me A Fool...Belgian Rye Stout 7.4%

    ($10 growler fills)

The harmony of malt and yeast brings you this highly drinkable elixir. Subtle malt sweetness gives way to peppery notes from the rye malt, that are in turn accentuated by the spicy phenols of the Belgian yeast. All of this is rounded out by hints of dark chocolate and roasted nuts. The silky mouthfeel and dry finish of this beer is as smooth as Darius Ruckers voice.

7:30pm: So Long & Thanks for All the Figs! 7%

(but Don’t Panic...It’s Mostly Harmless) ($10 growler fills)

Chef McCoy and Brewers Trevor & Eric collaboration. Inspired and formulated by Deep Thought, our super computer, we used 42 lbs of figs. Rochefort yeast, cinnamon, cardamom, and sweet orange peel to bridge the balance of sweet and spices of the galaxy.

For those who are Not on the email list and are only showing up for the first time in a year (or ever) in hopes of a chance to get some sort of rare ba stout etc ****

Ah, they have an email list.

That Indignant flight looks outrageous. The 22 month is already one of my favorite BA stouts; I can't imagine 30+ months in the barrel.

I didn't want to grab a drink tomorrow, but I don't think I can pass that up, if they're not doing growlers.

I don't know how much they brewed last year vs this year but if the same then maybe having unlimited growlers might have been the way to go. It's the craft beer mentality when folks hear limit 4, they buy 4 no questions asked. With the cognitive dissonance associated with unlimited (how the f&*k can I buy unlimited growlers, must not be worth getting anyway if no limit), it probably would have lasted 3 days again this year

Well said, and one of the many things I hate about the current state of craft beer. You better have a lot of friends coming over in the next couple days if you need 128 oz. of a BA raspberry stout. :stuck_out_tongue:

Showed up at 4 for a late lunch early dinner..Got a seat at the bar. Ordered Claire's at 5 along with two howlers. I just thought it was delicious. I didn't really get much bitterness just a ton of raspberry..Almost on the cusp of being too much. No longer than 15 min after I had ordered and received my brews I heard the bartenders tell walk ups it would be an hour and twenty minutes for a fill. They only had one tap of it. I could see how it flew. The hype from last year..A adjuct stout...It's Chicago, and it's $10(+ for new glass)..That's so cheap for a really awesome BA stout.

I didn't mean to imply that it was overly bitter, just that it's more bitter than the Goose Island equivalent. And yeah, it's super raspberry-forward, which is one of the reasons it's so good in my opinion. I've had comparable beers from guys like 4Hands (Downfall) and the creamy vanilla taste from the barrel-aging comes through too much, and mixes with the raspberries in a way I don't love.

How packed was Haymarket at 5ish yesterday? Trying to gauge if I need to get there early (gotta leave asap) today.

It def is a really nice brew.

Around 5 , all the seats at the bar were full. Most of the tables were as well. Wish I could make it tonight as their anniversary party sounds awesome
