Just a quick stout thought: If TG is now in the Chicago market, do they (a) get an invite to Fobab and (b) accept invite to Fobab and (c) bring those whales we want?:grinning:

I don't think that affects who comes to FoBAB, given that places like Weldwerks in Colorado came this past year, and we certainly don't get their stuff.

But yes, PLEASE bring Assassin, KBBS, etc. I'll get my brass knuckles ready to fight all the other beer nerds for a spot in line.

I'm 6'5" 310lbs and played OT for Mount Union. Keep your brass knuckles, I'll still kick your ass.:grinning::stuck_out_tongue::wink::slight_smile:

Well now that you've identified yourself I'll lay in wait, and maybe bring a bigger weapon. :grinning:
(also if it comes down to it, it's not like I need to be first in line )

They would see IMBIBE memberships quadruple for everyone to gain early access...smart business decision....

If only they could get Shelton Bros. to get some Cantillon in there...

Sean, always wait for your blocker to clear a path to the beer.

Breweries request to be at FOBAB and no one is actually invited. Y

I'd be really curious to try Assassin and KBBS. I've had Term Oil and thought it was an average BBS. I asked in the TG thread if there was a massive difference and the consensus was Assassin is TO on steroids.

I'm skeptical about both myself, but I've been told that one of the biggest selling points on TG's stouts is the mouthfeel. That might not be enough to fully win me over, but I'm definitely looking forward to trying them sometime.

I won't disagree with you, but I've also had local breweries tell me they weren't going because they didn't get an invite. Maybe they weren't in the know... That being said, it makes sense as a marketing tool if your beer is in this market to go to it as TG's now is.

I thought one of the issues is that no one gets compensated for coming to FoBAB, so breweries that are out of state have less incentive to bring us free beer (since we can't really seek it out afterwards).

They get compensated for the beer. I believe it was Side Project who said they didn't go back because they just didn't have enough available beer to meet the new 3 session requirements.

And yeah, I knew about the requirements.

If it's anything like the Term Oil VC, it's pretty great. Really rich feel and well balanced chocolate and barrel. Obviously adjuncts help, but the cinnamon was pretty subtle (unlike so many cinnamon bombs).

Anyone know anything about Buckledown Shadowbox? I can't find much to go on in terms of reviews or ratings.

I would say above all else I found Term Oil well balanced. Nothing really jumped out to me and made it distinctly enjoyable in my mind other than that. Frankly I'm a bit puzzled by the 4.57 rating. I can't speak for VC but my TO experience made me not even put in for the Assassian/KBBS lottery.

Yeah, I'm the opposite. I haven't had the regular, but without the adjuncts I could see it being just a solid stout that's not worth the $50 a bottle shit-show. Then again, two of their whales have adjuncts and another was in the barrels for quite a while.

I'm also a total nillabro, so that factors into my opinion.

It's ok, nothing special. I didn't get much barrel when I had it, on the thin side. Significant is much better, they brewed it just for FOBAB and has a different base beer.
In 2015 they made Funeral Box which was VERY good. Wish they would make that again.
