The beer temple is a must for bottle shop. Chris Quinn runs it and he is very knowledgeable and friendly. Other bottle shops you should check out are west Lakeview and Binny's south loop.

    Bars:
    Map room
    Long room
    Hop leaf

    Breweries/brewpubs:
    Half acre
    Revolution
    Haymarket-personal favorite
    Goose island Wrigleyvill/clyborn

Its not mentioned very often, but I rather like Rock Bottom's rooftop deck downtown. And then the Red Line is literally right outside Rock Bottom's front door, which can take you up to North Av, from where it is only a 3-4 block walk to Goose Island Clybourn. I haven't heard what the latest is about Goose's lease at that location, so if you have not been there in the past you may want to check it out before they (possibly?) close.

    Other stuff not mentioned...

    Bars:
Local Option (often regarded as the best), Piece, Bangers & Lace, SmallBar, Fountainhead, Sheffields, Paddy Longs

    Liquor Stores:
Puerto Rico Food and Liquors, Binny's Lincoln Park (the biggest)

Already mentioned above was the Map Room, which is my favorite spot. It's cash only and you can bring food in to eat. I suggest ordering My Pie as it's a couple blocks from there and is one of Chicago's best deep dish spots.

I'm headed to Chicago next month as well. Glad I found this thread. I'll try to check out these bottle shops. Any suggestions are appreciated. I want to get some brews that I can't find at home in Atlanta. I'm driving, so I'll have room to bring back a few new brews. Thanks!

Got to put Beer Temple on this list. One of the best bottle shops I've been to. It's also two blocks from Hot Doug's and two blocks from Kumars Corner.

The Publican has a house Lambic.

A little pricey but tasty. Goes well with their salty, fatty, porky menu.

I though hop leaf had a better selection than Map Room. Plus the new butcher at HL is great. Get the sausage plate
