Saw this recently and purchased a pint of the Hoppin Frog Frosted Frog Christmas Ale ice cream....expensive, but damn tasty!

I know Great Lakes does one as well, with Cleveland based Mitchells Ice Cream....(Great Lakes Brewing Co. and Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream in Cleveland have partnered for several years on Christmas Ale Ginger Snap ice cream)

Has anyone else seen these types of "beer flavored ice creams" around for the holidays, and is this just an Ohio thing?

Any idea of how long Hoppin Frog ice cream has been available? FWIW, the Great Lakes is still relatively new. I believe the first year they paired with Mitchell's was 2011 (so this is the 4th year).

It looks like Yuengling, Sam Adams, etc have had "black and tan" ice creams before, according to a quick Google search.

That sounds about right regarding the GL/Mitchell's ice cream. This is the first year Hoppin Frog has done this I believe. I will say that I like Frosted Frog way better than GLCA so I'm curious how that one is. I thought the GL/Mitchell's ice cream was pretty damn tasty.

EDIT: Oh and Mitchell's has a Edmund Fitzgerald chocolate or mocha ice cream that has been around for as long as I can remember.

This is the first year for the Hoppin Frog / Pav's Christmas Ale ice cream.....spoke to Fred at the brewery last week about this, and he said it was fun to put together with the ice cream maker! It was $3.99 / pint at the Acme store I bought at over this past weekend.....

I have to take a wide berth around Mitchell's as it's amazing in general.

I didn't have any Frosted Frog last year but I agree with you on the comparison as GL seems to be on a downhill for me (seems to be going the way of the cinnamon/sugar rim drinkers, if that makes sense).

I'll look into both the beer and the ice cream when I'm back in the area!

I would say a good number of beer festivals have some sort of beer and ice cream combo in in Ohio. If it's Stout Floats or what pairings.

That reminds me, the BORIS Chocolate Milkshake is the best combination of beer and ice cream I've ever had.

Jeni's Splendid did a collaboration with Barley's for a Belgian Christmas Ale ice cream that I was a huge fan of a few years ago... I believe it was a one time thing though; and on-site only.

Pour a BCS into a blender with a few scoops of vanilla ice cream. You'll thank me later

We've had Stoat Floats at the brewpub for a long while now (Brown Stoat Stout with Tom's Ice Cream Bowl's vanilla ice cream). We also had an "ice cream social" event where there were different ice cream pairings with the different beers on tap. It was interesting.
