Has anyone else experienced carbonation problems with this beer? I opened a bottle earlier today, the cork was partly disintegrating, but only very slightly so it's unclear that was the problem, and the beer was entirely flat.

My only prior experience with Cisco Woods beers is 1 bottle each of Lady of the Woods and Cherry Kriek and both were perfectly carbonated in delicious.

Is this just an isolated unfortunate experience, or is this beer intended to be flat, or released intentionally flat? I know this is the case sometimes with various wild beers, not sure about this one.

Yes. I own a convenience store/specialty beer shop. I tried one from the first case we got before I put it on the shelf and it was completely flat. The distributor sent me another case, I opened a bottle, and again..completely flat, cork disintegrating. I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this problem, but very disappointed. I've been really looking forward to this beer!

Dropped by the store at which I bought the beer - definite consensus amongst the staff there that this is more than an isolated event. Several of them had purchased bottles which were flat, and all had heard similar reports. Not universal of course, there were some carbonated bottles, but as far as I can tell carbonation and cork problems are real.

I sent an email to someone named Matt at Cisco last Sunday, still no answer. Perhaps the wrong person? The contact info on their website is a bit ambiguous.

My distributor says they'll probably end up doing a recall.

Should I just sit on mine now then and wait for the recall?

Well, it would certainly be nice of them to do so IF this proves to be widespread. I don't know anything about their customer service, but I'm not too impressed so far given the lack of response to my now week-old email.

Maybe I'll try emailing someone else over there. They don't seem to have a centralized email address so it could be that I just emailed the wrong person.

Not that it would help me much at this point - I brought my bottle back to the store I bought it to see if they would do a refund or exchange (not that I expected them to, I didn't even have my receipt any longer, but figured I'd at least go talk to them and give them the heads up), and of course left my bottle there. Oh well.

I have found their customer service to be pretty good in the past, but they are a very small operation and don't seem to be technologically oriented. It isn't surprising to me that you haven't yet heard back by email, but I wouldn't give up hope. Maybe try to give them a call and see if you have better luck? They could at least let you know the correct person to contact. 508-325-5929.

It sounds like a batch just released to some new markets, but I've never had a problem with any of the many Woods bottles I've had over the years. I've actually found Cisco to be a very consistent brewery for such a small operation, so it sounds like you all out of market buyers just caught bad luck here.

I have not had any carbonation issue with any of the seven Woods bottles I had, including two Monomoy Kriek. The only cork related issue had was a very stubborn cork on a bottle of Lady of the Woods. I agree is with cbeer88, sounds like bad luck.

Had several bottles from different stores and the carbonation was fine, must be a new batch.

I would love to believe this is the case, but between some corroborating stories locally and in this thread, I suspect it's more along the lines of what burns3558 says - a batch issue. Obviously many people have had perfectly carbonated delicious bottles, so I'm sure the majority of the most recent bottling was fine, but it does seem like a batch/bottling/set (pick a delineating expression) didn't turn out as intended. Hey, it happens to the best of breweries. I'm not the type to get worked up over it. I still haven't tried sending them a second email, so I'll go ahead and do that and see if I get a response. I'll keep everyone posted.

same here, though this definitely sounds like a bad batch. which sucks, since i'm not sure the bottles are dated in any way, and monomoy kriek is my favorite of the woods series (which i like very much to begin with).

i don't think the bottle i sent out in a trade in february was flat. i know the bottle i bought for a friend's birthday a couple months ago was good. as quoted above though, they've been very consistent with this kind of beer as such a small operation, so i wouldn't expect this problem to recur.

    (hope i'm right...)

I would try to get your money back from the store that you bought it from. If they refuse, contact the brewery.

Just to update everyone - after sending an email to a few other people over at Cisco I received a response from a woman named Kristen who was extremely helpful and offered to send me a replacement bottle. Additionally, she was definitely concerned at my mention of this possibly effecting more than my single bottle, and will be double-checking the batch that was sent to the store at which I purchased my bottle.

All in all, great customer service. It would be helpful if they had a centralized email address for customer service instead of only individuals, but my impression is they're a small company and likely don't see that as necessary. No complaints here and I'm, of course, very pleased with the outcome. I definitely suggest anyone else who's had problems email them as well (while the bottles aren't numbered, I sent the UPC number and the store at which I purchased the bottle as a means of identifying the batch).
