I'm planning to create a new IPA recipe to brew in the near future, and I've had great results with a zombie dust clone recipe that I've used in the past. I am also a huge fan of three Floyd's Alpha King, which I believe uses Warrior, Cascade, and Centennial. I'm thinking of quasi-combing the two to create an IPA using the malt bill from the zombie dust recipe, but modifying the hopping schedule by using warrior for 25 - 30% of the bittering, flavor, and dry-hop additions (and keeping citra for the other 70 - 75% of the hops). Has anyone used this combo for IPA, and if so, did you like the results? Another thing I'm considering is brewing the same recipe again, only this time, using galaxy for 30% or so of the hops. Does anyone have any experience using citra and galaxy in conjunction? Thanks!

Surly Abrasive uses solely Warrior and Citra...and it's a pretty decent brew

Jack, thanks for sharing? Out of curiosity, where did you find that? Was that legitimately provided by Three Floyds? Also, do they normally use Chico yeast? I was always told that they used ESB strain WY1968 as their house strain.

Also, according to ratebeer.com, it say's alpha king is a combination of centennial, cascade, and warrior. Have you brewed the recipe posted above, and if so, did it end up being pretty close to the real Alpha King? Thanks!

I found it via a simple internet search. I think the original source was an article in Zymurgy from 2004.

I personally have zero knowledge of Three Floyds and how they brew (i.e., which yeast strain they use). I simply knew how to Google here.

    Cheers!

The recipe has changed since 2004. It's warrior, centennial and cascade with British ale yeast. The malt bill is close enough and maybe the same.

I used Citra/Galaxy together once. It seemed like it would be a good pair. The blend was just OK. Somewhat disappointing. Worth a try. I preferred both hops by themselves over the blend.

The peachy/pinneapple flavor from galaxy is the most volatile hop character I've experienced (also one of the best). In the days before my oxidation was in check, this hop was basically useless in terms of flavor and aroma. Amazing out of the fermenter, nonexistent after a week packaged. If you can purge your package well, then it's great.

I have done 2 galaxy/Citra and I thought they came out fantastic. Super passion fruit, mango flavors and aromas
