Closest beer to Heady Topper

I thought 077XX was pretty similar, although I haven't had 077XX in a while.

 

ALL GREEN ERRTHAAANG (i've heard outside of this forum, never actually tried Heady though)

 

Twas the heroin that did Topper in. All Crimes wanted was an expensive car. He got into the HOF on the tails of the other four. He was okay as a punk drummer but totally lacking in any other styles.

 

It's been a while since I've had some Heady but I'd say DC Brau ADM is close enough.

 

There is nothing like it ... I've bathed in it, cooked with it, & consumed copious amounts to the point of having an asparagus effect. Tree House, Other Half & similar are just as great but none of their beers are similar to it.

Its not just the hopping that makes it unique ... malt base and yeast are different from most.

 

Melvin 2X4 is the closest to Heady I've tasted.

 

damnit! I live in rhode island and have yet to see this on any of the many liquor store shelves i lurk. i swear they just ship it out of state and ignore us locals

 

I find Other Half double IPA's to be syrupy and boozy and in no way resemble Heady.

 

I had Fat Heads Hop Stalker not too long after drinking some Heady and I must say there were some similarities there.

 

Just hoping, you, at some point.... didn't reach for a straw.

Carton cans trickle into New York on occasion. I've seen a few of their beers on tap also. I'm almost positive Kane has never sold bottles or their one run of cans so far, outside of the brewery. You see their stuff on tap all over NJ but I've yet to see it in New York but I could be wrong on that.

 

It's many years for me (since the last time HT was legally distributed to stores in MA) but by the time I got to the end of the 4-pack I bought at the time I was thinking I'd just have soon spent the dough on Deviant Dale's.

 

I'm drinking one as we speak, and I drank a Substance then lux right before.... If I'm being 100% honest both were were just as good. I have the luck of living in New England and drink a lot of great beer a lot. But guys like tree house and trillium and Bissell brothers are producing beers just as good, if not better right now. Go ahead and bash on me BA but it's hard to compete when you brew 1 sot after (sorry two including the impossible to get Focal Banger)
So IMHO the MA/ME breweries are killing I just as hard, if not harder than vt

Give me a Gandhi Bot or Julius its loser less hassel and the beers in my opinion are better!

 

Go to the Brewery!! Best place to get beer and the freshest of beer. Its on fairly often there and plus you do live in Rhode island.

 

You can get Carton in NYC pretty easily as well as most of Jersey. As far as I know Kane is only available in Jersey and even here its not real easy to find. Limited releases from either one - but esp Kane - are EXTREMELY hard to get even here in Jersey.

 

Hard in the Paint or Mouth Hug by the Answer Brewpub, both offer a cleaner taste across the palate and neither falls short on the hoppiness
