Argh I hate taking the bait of quibbling with random internet lists, buuuut no Sump?

Maybe he just couldn't/didn't get one...

Good list, but I was really hoping to see Sump on here.

That's always the case, wine drinkers always say the same thing but there's always limits between what's available and how many can be tasted during the review

I'd take MBCP and possibly BBB or Victory at Sea over BCBCS. And if we're including others...Good Morning, Wide Awake It's Morning, KBBS, and maybe Mocha Wednesday.

I can get behind the top 3; but Master of Disguise higher than Founders Breakfast Stout? I don't think so.

Actually a pretty decent list from Thrillist for a change. Only major problem is MBCP being ranked so low. It's the best coffee beer I've ever had, and I've had BCBCS both from '13 and '14.

There are no imported beers on the list which makes me think they were limiting it to US-only releases.

Master of Disguise shouldn't even be on the list. What a boozy mess of a beer.

Best I've had recently is Naughty Sauce by Noble Ale Works in California. Really took me by surprise.

Totally different style than the others listed and I realize it's not distributed outside of the NJ/PA/NY area, but those who were lucky enough to find it will back me up that Carton Regular Coffee is not only worthy of being on this list but near the top of it.

Peche Mortel is available in many states, mostly in the East. He didn't look hard enough :stuck_out_tongue:

Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout was not impressive at all to me. Tweak is just another syrupy disaster from Avery that I've seen result in multiple drain pours at the bar from people who generally like high-gravity, barrel-aged beers. Still surprised to not see any mention of Sump, Winter Grind or Bell's Java Stout though.

Agree, before SUMP BCBCS was my hands down favorite but regular Sump blew it away for me. Cant wait to try the BA version.

Highly disagree with this guy's rankings. Some of the rankings are okay, while others are misplaced, and some shouldn't even be on the list.

Lagunitas Cappuccino is really weak in flavor not a disappointment but nothing special. Wake n bake should be higher IMO.

Better get it fresh. Chose it on tap on a release day at the brewery(could only have one, there was soooo much goodness on tap that day). By that time it was almost a year old, and I was extremely disappointed. Coffee was gone.

Thats what I hear about it. I was just so supprised how thick and rich the regular was. Im salavating thinking about the three bottles I have at home lol. That was my fear with Coffee Abraxas as well so those are long gone.

Sump is good but too bitter and a bit thinner than bcbs. Ba sump, although better, is also still bitter and abut thin. Coffee abraxas just doesn't work well. Inperial blud is better imho.

Overall pretty good list. They forgot a few and I'd move some up (Speedway, MBCP), but taking into account personal preference it's hard to argue too much.

Earl and Good Morning are not on the list. What is wrong with that author?

Hard to believe the author made that list without trying every single coffee beer on the planet. And without consulting all the responders to this thread.

    Yeah, sarcasm.

If you can get it fresh, I agree completely. I have a few that have been aging, while good, are not as great as the fresh ones.

It is a really good list overall....aside from Sump and Peche Mortal being excluded and Master of Disguise included....honestly not a bad job on it.
I was surprised at the Cigar City Cubano Espresso Brown Ale being #2. It's my favorite coffee beer by far, but I never hear anyone mention in coffee beer conversations...so that's awesome.

If I had to pick one beer that wasn't on the list to be on it, it would be Williamsburg Alewerks Cafe Royale.

Another interesting list. I like the Southern Tier addition, as it's much different than your usual coffee beer. Happy to see Short's Cup A Joe as well.

I love trying coffee beers. Sump was good, but I think in comparison to other coffee beers and other beers from Perennial I was expecting more.

    For me it is:
    1)Founders Breakfast Stout
2)Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout
    3)Avery Tweak
    4)Peche Mortel
    5)Big Bad Baptist
    6)AleSmith Speedway Stout
    7)Prairie Bomb!
8)4 Hands Three Kings (Belgian Tripel with coffee added aged in bourbon barrels. A shame it was only brewed once)
9)Founders Frangelic Mountain Brown (also a one off)
    10)Sierra Nevada Coffee Stout

    Others they listed I've tried:
Surly Coffee Bender-overwhelmingly bitter, though I think I see why others might like it.
Stone Master of Disguise-the novelty of it was the best part.

    I've got:
    Victory Coffee at Sea

    Need to rate:
Schlafly Coffee Stout-remember it being great, but haven't tried in the last couple of years when I started rating.

The best thing about these lists is that they make me curious about trying a few more of these.
