I'll be heading up to Bessemer, MI next weekend and I was wondering if there is any local favorite bottle shops and any beer around there that I can't get in Illinois. Yes, I know of seekabrew but being in that part of Michigan, I would think the distribution would be little different right?

    Cheers

MarcatGSB is the resident Yooper in the BA forums. Try giving him a BM.

Not sure what makes it up that way for sure. Some of the Keweekaw stuff is pretty good and readily available up there. I would recommend a quick trip to Wisconsin as well to grab a bunch of New Glarus stuff since you will be close to the border.

I think you need to be in Houghton (two breweries) or Marquette (three breweries, I think) for any beer life, whether for breweries or bottle shops. Escanaba has the Hereford & Hops brewpub, plus I've heard of a pretty good bottle shop in Escanaba too, but I don't go to the UP often enough to be able to recommend any specific places.

You should be able to find something in Ironwood for a beer store.

Your profile would lead me to believe that you are from Il. Bessemer will offer you literally nothing (beer wise). Sorry. KBC in a can, but yah. Maybe some Short's, but I highly doubt it. What were you hoping to find? Jolly Pumpkin, Short's, Bell's limited, ?

I was hoping for Shorts and maybe some local goodness from the area. Didn't have my hopes up for any "shelve whales"

It's a long way up and I'll definitely be making stops in WI for some New Glarus.

    Thanks for the info!

Your best bet is to hit Woodmans in Kenosha, Discount in Milwaukee, Ridgeview in Green Bay. I'm not sure if anyone in that area has any Short's, honestly. Escanaba or Marquette or Houghton will definitely. Have a safe trip.

Me and a group of friends are going up there for the weekend to ski. Most of them are teachers so we plan a different ski resort every MLK weekend. This is our 6th.

I'm guessing you are going to Big Powderhorn then...I know that Indianhead over in Wakefield is planning on having some Brick Side brewing beer next weekend. In fact, they might be doing some sort of beer thing (not sure on the details). Brick Side has been open for less than a year up in Copper Harbor, and he is brewing some real solid beers. Finally working out some kinks, his beers are finally carbing up well, and drinking really nice. If they have the German Dungeon 7676 (porn), get it. They call it a Dark German Weizen, but it's got some sour ness to it (on purpose), that is really refreshing and tart. I'll do some more research and see if I can't get some more info for you.
