Summer is here and it's hot and humid. Does anyone have any recommendations for some crisp IPAs for these hot days? I'm not talking about the syrupy, extra sweet IPAs, but just the opposite. Medium to light mouthfeel and balanced.

If you like a light bodied IPA I would suggest Firestone Walker Luponic Distortion IPA.

    Cheers!

Down here (Florida Panhandle) people drink Founders All Day when it's hot, along with BP Sculpin and Cigar City Jai Alai. Plus those all come in cans. I'm completely drinking the Kool-Aid with these juicy IPAs and PAs; I'd be looking for Maine A Tiny Beautiful Something, Creature Comforts Automatic and PseudoSue.

Fat Heads Head Hunter came to mind.

Smuttynose IPA "The Finest Kind", Port Wipeout, and while a borderline pale ale/ipa...Alesmith X

+1 on the Luponic, tons of flavor yet light bodied.

Also would say Modern Times' Booming Rollers fits this profile 100%.

i enjoyed Luponic but found it too light. i don't mind lighter IPAs but some pull it off better than others. i find Founders All Day to be syrupy and leave a weird aftertaste.

Head Hunter is straight up amazing
Union Jack is similar to Head Hunter, to me, and is crisp and clean
Jai Alai is great too, i had it this winter but it struck me as a warm weather beer
Carton Boat Beer is an amazing warm weather beer

Excellent summer beer. I wish I could get more as it would be my go-to for sailing. It's supposed to hit distribution here soon (I'd originally heard April, but it seems to pushed back repeatedly).

Funny you should say that. I tasted fresh Head Hunter side by side with Jai Alai. At first, I thought Head Hunter reminded me of Union Jack. After further tasting though, the closer comparison for Head Hunter would be to a beer like Port Wipeout. Union Jack, to me, is a touch heavier and more complex all around. My brother refers to Union Jack as his Fall/Winter IPA.

    Uh-you're in Michigan--

    Two hearted come to mind?

An IPA benchmark. Super fresh--as crisp as a true IPA gets.

Crisp and dry as a mofa....an awesome low abv hop delivery device. Wouldn't call it balance though.

When I think of crisp I think of Jacks Abby Hoponious Union or Calyptra. Sure, they are IPLs but still.

The couple IPLs I've had fit the bill (the only one I remember by name is Orlison's - no way they're distributed to Michigan). So have some hoppy takes on pilseners, so long as they're not too big (a 7% abv lager with PNW hops isn't a pilsener - sorry Fish Brewing...).

Not a popular suggestion for some, but I've had several "session" IPAs that were in the ballpark as well.

I agree with other poster that 'crisp' may be most easily found in an IPL. St. Archer Nelson IPL is the best I've had recently. One can never go wrong with the Jack's Abby offerings. Cans of FW Pivo Pils may fit the bill too if you like pilsners.

Crisp is exactly how I would describe Two Brothers Wobble. Not overly tropical but a distinct drying bite with lemony hops.

Victory Vital IPA. It's like a pilsner-IPA hybrid. So crisp and clean.

When it gets hot and HUMID in Michigan I basically throw particular style out the window. Sometimes all I want are beers that are light, refreshing, and crisp.

    Blackrocks Grand Rabbits
    Frankenmuth Twisted Helles
    Victory Prima Pils

Wow, you and I think exactly alike. I was going to say these 2 beers. Smutty is super crisp as is Head Hunter. I just love, love, love Head Hunter. Wipeout I've only had once or twice so I honestly don't remember it. Also, the Fat Heads Sunshine Daydreamin is super crisp and clean, but it's a session IPA so it should be crisp.

The other one I see was listed above is Vital IPA from Victory. Pilsner malt and hops? Crisp and clean IPA. I'll disagree too on Fresh Squeezed. For me that has way more malt and sweetness to it, enough so I would not really call it crisp.

We're in Michigan, man. Two Hearted, All Day, even Centennial will do. You want something local, try some Short's Space Rock or Greenbush Closure. Sure, they're APAs, but they're crisp and refreshing in a hot day.
