Since Hill Farmstead is no longer holding official release events, please use this thread to post the bottles available on the shelves along with costs, sizes, limits, and so forth.

It's OK to include the beers available in growlers too. Also, you can post new additions, for onsite consumption, in their tap room.

As always, looking at the HF retail page
    http://www.hillfarmstead.com/retail/

    or calling the brewery
    802-533-7450

are your best sources for up-to-date information.

** Updated bottle release policy: http://hillfarmstead.com/faq/retail-shop/what-is-the-bottle-release-policy.html. This FAQ has been updated on May 26, 2016 and includes certain credit card purchase only requirements for all special releases and barrel-aged beers. Read the entire linked page which explains the changes.

To see what's available to drink in their new tap room, click on the following link:

you mean the anniversary week flight isn't happening now that it is no longer anniversary week?

Anniversary aside, just a normal visit, you use to be able to get a sample flight or pours. Now it appears you can only get 2 pours? Maybe I am reading to far into this.

You can get small samples of the beers available for growlers. You can only get 2 full pours for onsite consumption. http://hillfarmstead.com/onsite/ makes it very clear "samples not included" in 2 drink maximum.

Is this saying that you can only purchase limited release bottles on a credit card? No cash accepted?
Or is it just saying that your CC must be accompanied with a matching ID?

I prefer to pay only in cash, and have never heard of a credit card being *required* to buy beer...

General chat in the May thread suggested that they are requiring a credit card be used by each purchaser (though @jhavs comment implied there's at least an exception for couples with the same last name).

I think this change is meant to make it a little more difficult to clean up on limited releases just by convincing friends, family or total strangers to show their faces in line at HF. Sure, you could just pay them cash as an advance on their credit card bill, but at least with the new policy there's clearly a transactional aspect, and a nominally illegal one at that.

I'm sure they wouldn't be doing this if they didn't think it could address a problem.

I think this will only encourage the neckbeards to rack up more beer debt, whereas people like me who prefer to pay with cash that I've already earned, will be turned off.
Can't they just require an ID?
    It's borderline absurd.

A debt card, or prepaid credit card is cash that you've already earned. Not saying you shouldn't have the "right" to pay with cash, just saying there are options.
They are trying, not many options, and none will make everybody happy.

They only required you to provide your id and credit card for the purchase of the six years bottle. Anything and everything else you could pay however you wanted. It was just for that one bottle.

Yeah I don't understand the weeping/moaning/gnashing of teeth over this. Just get a debit card.

And we don't have "rights" with regards to how we purchase from businesses. You either pay the ways the businesses accept, or you don't purchase from that business.

Honestly if you're complaining about being shut out because you don't have a credit or debit card, it's kind of like complaining that the brewery didn't have a hitching post for your horse.

Edit: it occurs to me that Hill Farmstead might actually have a hitching post for your horse, but I think the analogy is still valid.

I really don't understand why so many people are still complaining about this. Pay for growlers and regular shelf bottles with cash. Have your credit/debit card used just for the special release limits bottles. Not really sure how spending money on 2-3 bottles with a credit card is going to rack up debt. Hell, that's the cost of going to the supermarket. I don't see people complaining about using their debit/credit card when they go grocery shopping.

Usually between Saturday and Tuesday... Doesn't sound too specific but I have seen them announce on every one of those days. So basically, when ever they feel like it. Also I wouldn't expect too much notice from here on out

I heard the same. Note this tweet from November 2014:

    https://mobile.twitter.com/HillFarmstead/status/538116496271372290

I also remember seeing something around that time on social media about the zesting effort.

And rumor has it CD #17's "threads of a spontaneously fermented citrus beer" came from a premature Mimosa barrel.

If it ever does get re-released... Yikes. Lottery-only at best, I'd imagine.

CD7 & 6 years were two pretty special on-site bottles yesterday. Both very tannic. Really on that border of beer & wine. Hard to pass on all that Cantillon but I'm here in VT for HF. Love that so many places have the hoppy beers on tap so I could skip the brewery pours. Lovely place to sit and drink.

I'm thinking of driving up there for the July 4th weekend and do the bartenders give you the stinkeye if you ask for a sample of everything on tap? It'll be a 6 hour drive from NYC and I don't want to be just restricted to tasting two pours...

  39. woodfinish

    woodfinish Initiate (0) Aug 24, 2005 Massachusetts

I don't think it's a problem, but you might have to be patient if there's a big crowd for the holiday.

Are you planning on sticking around the area? Kind of crazy to make a 6 hour drive to beer nirvana and not. In that case, you can find plenty of HF on tap (including the DIPAs and other high ABV stuff they don't do more than taste-sample at the brewery).

I'd use my "two drink maximum" on whatever looks good on the on-site bottle list, and pick up a 750 of everything on for fills.

I've only been once and it was a rainy spring Saturday but the bartender seemed happy to offer us samples. There was a decent sized crowd but it wasn't completely packed. I think you should just try what you want to try.
