Since Hill Farmstead is no longer holding official release events, please use this thread to post the bottles available on the shelves along with costs, sizes, limits, and so forth.

It's OK to include the beers available in growlers too. Also, you can post new additions, for onsite consumption, in their tap room.

As always, looking at the HF retail page
    http://www.hillfarmstead.com/retail/

    or calling the brewery
    802-533-7450

are your best sources for up-to-date information.

** Updated bottle release policy: http://hillfarmstead.com/faq/retail-shop/what-is-the-bottle-release-policy.html. This FAQ has been updated on June 11, 2016 and they will ONLY accept a credit card/debit card accompanied by a valid, legal picture ID that matches the name on the credit card (this excludes generic Visa / MasterCard gift cards). This requirement is only for all special releases and barrel-aged beers. Read the entire linked page which explains the changes.

To see what's available to drink (and eat) in their new tap room, click on the following link:

    http://hillfarmstead.com/onsite/

The 2 drink limit has been removed. Please be responsible. Everything on tap is available to sample.

The bottle shop stops selling bottles at 5:00 pm sharp. The tap room will stay open to fill growlers for the people who are inside already before 5:00 pm and are waiting for the staff to complete their order.

The onsite bottles, for consumption in the tap room only, are NOT to leave the tap room. Please do NOT try to steal the empty bottles. Please respect the rules. Thank you.

High abv beer bottles (ie Double Barrel Damon bottles) have to be split for on premises consumption. This is a strict rule. Please note that it's actually pretty easy to find people to split a beer up there (if you didn't bring anybody). Just say out loud that you are looking to split a DBD and you'll find takers. Enjoy.

    Cans

Posted on the HF retail page and information is usually posted on this thread too.

The cans are sold in 12oz 6-packs. "We set limits on cans, just like bottles: with the expectation of the beer lasting into, if not through Saturday."

    Historical information on limited releases

    @RuckIt
created this awesome spreadsheet for the limited releases for the past two years.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TGdA6oCRFKUKm_SrUvAhrl6Zuk2g7njqhYCHMFkhTVQ/edit?usp=sharing

Full credit should be given to @RuckIt for creating and maintaining it.

@AutumnBeerLove, HF staff member, has been nice enough to respond to questions on this thread and to provide valuable updates like the following:

I think it is mostly safe to say our new draft onsite location in retail will stick around for the summer, if not the potential busier days. This keeps growler waits at a maximum of an hour with an average wait of under 30 minutes for a day. Along with that, it keeps two employees in retail and thus has the bottles line moving too.

Not sure if they were enforcing it, but they did have the 2 drink limit sign up this week.

Is it weather related? The tap room was pretty quiet this week.

Anyone mind sharing what time HF has typically been opening on Wednesdays? I know stated opening hour is noon, but also know they typically open earlier. Just wondering how much earlier lately in order to plan a long roadtrip we’re doing from Burlington to Portland that day. Thx!

Posted hours are posted hours of course, but 11:30 is reasonable if you want to get in early. Wouldn't bother showing up any earlier than that.

It's "we are not a bar" related. Considering also how many car accidents there are up here, almost daily, we do not need any one of them being traced to alcohol.

I know it is still early in the week, but will Flora last until next Thursday?

Looks like there will be some great options either way, as always, but the addition of pears sounds delightful.

Okay, then why have you guys lifted the limit many times before, sometimes for weeks at a time?

  13. AutumnBeerLove

    AutumnBeerLove Initiate (0) Oct 16, 2010 Vermont

Lessons learned. It has been lifted, and then people post photos where they were able to sneak having 5 or 6 beers here. Maybe that is worth the risk to a consumer, but it is not to a business that depends on its liquor license.

Definitely agree with not overserving, obviously. But are there smaller taster sizes for draft rather than just the 2 pints? Would love to try a few different things when I head up there

They'll give you a taste (1-2 oz) of anything on draft (at least last time I was there).

Tastes of draft beer are free. Which, at times can mean upwards of 12 free tastes. Hence another reason for a (full) pour limit.

How does this work when you come with a group of let's say four people and split all the bottles?

Is the group allowed to split 2 bottles? 4 bottles? 6 bottles?

I believe anything you need to split counts as 2 drinks total, so for a pair, 1 drink for each person.

so if I have ~94 mL of Norma that is the same as having a 250 mL pour of a DIPA?

That's a bit discouraging. It is their house, their rules so I will not argue.

I could be wrong but I would be surprised if they make you split Norma, so splitting it would probably not count as a full drink for you. I'm referring to stuff like Damon and 750s, where they won't sell it to you unless you have someone to split it with - those ones you will likely only be able to split 4 bottles between the four of you, or two and then a draught pour each, etc.

The other option is there are no limits and someone has a few too many, drives into a ditch and full on-premise pours stop altogether. That's kind of the point of the limit. If you want more, grab a hotel and come back the next day?

In my limited experience (one visit) there is some flexibility on the two drink rule as it applies to split bottles. Depends on the size of the bottle and number of people splitting. YMMV

they've never done that for the 2 limit. ppl often split bottles and as has been said the higher abv you've always had to split. if you grabbed 4 bottles split between 4 ppl and each person goes up once and you get 1 regular draft pour, unless its changed thats probably okay. that's how it was b4 with the limit. the hill crowd isn't a chug crowd and you cant blame them for worrying with the roads how they are in the winter.

Friend is going up tomorrow and going to buy me some cans/bottles/growlers...any recommendations based on what's available? Only HF I've ever had was a pour of Arthur at Armsby Abbey and I loved it. Wanna make sure I end up with a great haul and figured I'd see what you guys thought.

Flora for sure, cans of Mary and Legi, cannot go wrong with Citra growlers, I like Anna a lot too, Florence is a keeper, etc!

Bottles: Anna is my personal favorite of the "shelf" bottles. I always grab that when I'm up. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the regular bottles currently available - Brother Soigne, Arthur, Convivial, Table Dorothy, Florence, and Anna. Grab one of each. Great beers at such a great value.

Growlers: Any of HF's single hop beers are standouts. Citra on currently. I rarely pass on Edward as well. S&S series beers are great as well. #5 in my top 5 of the series. Throw in one of Marie as well.

Cans: Personally, I'd load up on Mary.

As you can read, can't go wrong. Scary deep list available.

I'm curious - Does HF remove ISO/FT comments on their IG page?

Hopefully. I’d applaud them. Find that part of beer release posts on IG to be the most annoying thing. I wish more breweries did it and or turned off comments completely. It just becomes littered with FT/ISO, DM me, posts. Most of the time commenters don’t even read especially when some of Hill’s posts for releases have been for onsite only. Yet they still post ISO.
