Cystic Fibrosis LIF (CBS, Atrial Rubicite, Darklord up for grabs)

Hey there fellow BA's. My name is Ray and my daughter was born with a disease called Cystic Fibrosis. It effects a person's lungs and digestive system making it difficult to clear one's airway and digest food properly. When my wife and I were 4 months pregnant we found out through some blood work that we were both carriers of the CF gene. It was a 1 in 4 chance that our child would be born with the disease. 2 weeks after McKenna was born we found out what we had been fearing all along, that she was indeed born with Cystic Fibrosis. We were devastated, scared, angry and sad all at the same time. 8 months later we have faced the challenge head on! We have an amazing support system through University Hospital's Rainbow Babies Children's Hospital! A full team of medical professionals including doctors, nurses, dietitians and case managers along with our pediatrician assure McKenna is getting the best care possible! It also helps her that both my wife and I are health care professionals! This kid has it made!

During her last visit to the CF clinic she weighted 20lbs 15 oz (95th percentile). Children with cystic fibrosis often struggle to hit the 50th percentile so this is amazing news! One of the reasons she is doing so well on this front is due to special enzymes she eats with every meal that help her digest her food. These enzymes would be naturally released by the pancreas in you or me when we eat but her pancreas is blocked so these enzymes are her lifeline. The enzymes are very expensive but luckily the pharmaceutical company supplies them for free for the first 2 years of McKenna's life! This pharmaceutical company works closely with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help us and other families dealing with this disease. Advances in medicine have stretched the average lifespan for individuals with CF to 30+ years! I know a cure is not far away! The statistic that shocked me the most was that only 30,000 people in America have this disease. That number blows me away, there are over 300,000,000 people living in America which means only 0.01% have cystic fibrosis!

My wife and I have put together a team to participate in a local walk called Great Strides! It is a 5K walk on May 4th in Wooster, OH! All donations are tax deductible and go straight to the foundation! Our team name is McKenna's Maniacs!

This LIF will work like others that have been set up in the past. Every $10 you donate buys you a ticket. I will be keeping a list of all donations and give you a number. At the end of the LIF I will use a graphing calculator to draw random numbers to award the boxes to participants. (taking a stats class right now hence the nerdy way to figure out the winners) I may switch to have McKenna draw numbers but it depends on if she figures out how to do that by the end of the LIF. She is only 8 months old so I am cutting her some slack! Make sure to put your BA name in the DISPLAY NAME section! This is how I can link you to your donation!
