Pawn Stars is the only show on History Channel I can stand to watch when they aren't doing one of their scripted and unfunny irrelevant skits. Obviously the whole show is scripted, but it's INTERESTAINING when stuff is being sold. You actually learn some things.

Dark Horse Nation (at least based on the first two episodes) is just lame.

Yeah I didn't like it. I guess I'll just be happy with brew dogs (IDC what people think, that show is great.)

Have only watched the first four episodes so far and I keep waiting for it to get better. Not really sure what I was expecting based on other shows on History (isn't it time they 're-branded' this network?) but, so far, it's a big 'meh'.

On my work trip in Michigan this week I stopped by and had lunch at DH. They were missing 3 beers in the tap room and I asked what the deal was and that server said the show is so popular that beer sales were through the roof and they had to bottle what they were making to satisfy the public. She specifically said Meijer was complaining about their shelves being empty. So it is taking a toll on what they can offer at the taproom....for now. Also, the taproom was packed on a weekday at lunch and the server told me they had to call in extra help.

FWIW, I like the show. You get a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes. I wish beer was the major focus of the show though. Dogfish did a better job at this.

I watched the recent episode about the parade float. I believe I saw one of them drinking a Strohs when they are in a dinner talking about the float. The episode about the Bacon Brew was interesting.

To a certain extent, I agree with you. The average person flipping through channels doesn't care about beer but if you take a look at some of the most successful reality shows around right now, they seem to be heavily geared towards the business the shows take place in. For example, Pawn Stars is very focused on things that take place in the pawn shop. Gold Rush, another extremely successful show, is very centered around gold mining. Of course, these shows also have drama and hijinks but they still manage to be quite interesting... really now... go kart racing is just .. I don't know.. dull?

I'm not saying that the show has to be focused on brewing but something a little more focused on the brewery would be nice.

I want to cry... I take it all back:slight_smile: It's obviously providing the best outcome ever for the taproom. BBPT5...really?? Lucky you.

They focus a ton on the brewery itself...People here seem to want the show to focus on the brewing process, and that is not what normal tv watchers care about...

fwiw Aaron and Wiggs are the same people in real life as they are on this show. I met them both at the Michigan Beer Festival and they are incredibly nice guys that are super passionate about beer.

This show can tangibly benefit us all as long as DH makes good money from it. This will give them some $ margin to offset the costs of making horrible beer-themed solvents without having to sell them to their precious customers:
    Lambeak Wants Raspbery
    Lambeak Wants Peachy
    Lambeak Wants Dragonfruit
    Lambeak Wants Blood Orange
Plus other obviously tasteless crap like Sour Three Guys.

Prior to the show they evidently needed money so bad they'd sell these to THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS (and at horrible price points too).

I suspect these beers were on tap because of the Chicken Wings Thing event that the brewery had on Saturday. I might just need to take a look at their online tap list to see if it's still there, and then stop over tonight if it is.

Thought it was horrible. It's just like every other reality show formula with beer guys instead of _______ (insert redneck, screaming rich girls, etc here) Didn't even finish the episode, deleted the 2nd, canceled season pass.

Was there yesterday. If I remember correctly, they were pouring the Amber, regular Crooked Tree, Raspberry Ale, BIPA, FF Dekoorc Eert, and Demeter's Lament.

Moral of the story, no BBPtF to be had unfortunately. :slight_frown:

    Terrible show.

I DVR'ed it, forced myself through the first episode, half-paid attention to the second episode, then erased it from my DVR list before that second episode was even over.

As a homebrewer I am really digging this show. Sure brewing and beer isn't the focus but it's cool seeing aspects of there brewing setup and I get a kick out of the guys and they're shenanigans.

Brew Dogs has more brewing and beer related things but I find those guys incredibly annoying.

If I want brewing related videos I use you tube, namely chop and brew and old brewing tv episodes.

I also think these guys depict the "brewer" quite accurately. They appreciate all beers (hamms, strohs, crooked tree, BA stouts etc etc), they are partly janitors/maintenance men, and they figure out ways to solve problems, and they take pride in what they do. I can't wait for more!!

I don't get the hate. It is fun to see what people who brew beer I love are like and get to meet the personalities.

The show is not in the schedule for tonight for some reason. The Dark Horse Facebook page says there was a family tragedy on Saturday, so maybe History Channel has delayed the rest of the episodes in the schedule in a related move?
