anyone take a peak at the trade forums, they've gone BA DL crazy. If your willing to trade a Vanilla from yesterday I think you can get a russian mail order bride and super bowl tickets.

Take it easy. I'm just saying you can't extrapolate pub experience to DLD, especially since I inferred a preconceived notion on your part.

Dark Lord Day scratch tickets a lot more fun before I got involved trading. Now watching people win scratch offs (and missing on two tickets for the third year) was oddly painful.

This isn't worse but...... my wife has won every year and since I'm not a caveman I let her select what she wants. 2011- Vanilla - nice job
    2012 - Muerte - ummm OK
    2013 - Mostcatel - hmmm

Considering that I have ready and plentiful access to FFF year round and spent ALL day yesterday selling BA DL please forgive a stupid question. Why is
it so important to ask some variety of "Which one is most popular?","Which on did they make the least of?", "How many bottles of x did they make?" You either enjoy something rare and exciting, or you are looking to sell it. What other options am I missing? Again, I don't get the beer-as-gold thing.

Pretty sure I made it clear that with respect to DLD, it was my first time, and my expectations were based on "horror stories from years past". Those stories are consistent with my personal experiences at the brewpub, and as a result, my expectations were...quite low.

The point of the post was to commend them for a job well done, however; despite those low expectations, pre-conceived (legitimate, though they may be) notions, I was blown away by, frankly, how awesome the whole event was -- and it was awesome!

I think the highlight of my day might have been losing my brother in line. Me and another guy went to find him...in the process i lost the other guy as well. Found my brother after he had got done puking in a port-a-potty. Called a friend that had just gone through and bought his beer to come take his ticket to get the beer for him. Got him back to the car to sleep then went and got my beer.

Turns out while i was initially looking for him he had passed out while dropping a deuce. the guy that went looking for him with me apparently laid down in the grass somewhere and passed out as well.

Any other news from the brewpub? I'm guessing DL is still on tap. Anything else of interest? I'm considering taking a ride up there.

I always wondered what happens to the unsold dark lord, people don't show up, misplaced golden ticket, etc. I've never hard of Sunday post DL sales. Anyone know?

I didn't know where the DL or BA variants were on tap, only saw the BA Hell's Black Intelligencer at one point, but went with the CCB Leon right then, which was absolutely amazing.

The Dark Lord on tap was at a tent near the brewpub. Right when you come out from buying bottles. I went to the guest tap area first and just asked them where the Dark Lord on draft was.

First year going. Got there around 2:00 after scoring some parabola and doom earlier. Seemed very well organized considering the horror stories ive heard of previous years. Immediately went for the guest taps when I arrived. Had KBS, Parabola, Black Albert, Mikkeller Black, Older Viscosity, and BA moloko all @ the same time :grimacing: craziness. Hit up the FFF draught tent and BA DL had just kicked when we got there. Needless to say my dad was pissed since it was a ridiculously long wait. Luckily cool guy that was in front of us let all 3 of us try some BA DL, which was pretty awesome. So in turn I let him taste some Doom.

We started lining up around 4 for Group D and come to find out after half hour later that we were in group c line and had to find group D. Met some cool people in group D. Someone else had just scored some Moscatel DL. Which I actually liked, but it seemed a lot of people didnt. Met some people from minnesota, who hooked me up with a lot of surly, which was pretty cool. I actually ended up getting a winning scratch off, but my dad and his GF didnt. NO vanilla DL of course, but I scored a bottle of port DL and ended up trading a Doom for another DL. Unfortunately I was ridiculously drunk and passed out as soon as i got in the car. Thank god I wasnt driving. Paying for it today.

All in all pretty fun time, met lots of cool people, drank lots of awesome stuff, and scored some ridiculous beers. Cant ask for anything else. Didnt get to try Vanilla DL, but hey thats for another time.

Guests drafts were excellent. Heard a rumor going around, can anyone confirm if Hill Farmstead had anything on tap yesterday? Also heard the the BA Moloko was aged in pappy van winkle barrels, though I can't confirm it.

Great time this year, Group E line was really a long wait, but everything else was great. Hooked up with some really fun people, Brian Calihan, Brian Baily, Misty, Ryan and their group. Got to share some great beers (thanks!) Finally got to try Hunahpu (raspberry?) mirror mirror, sexual chocolate, chocolate rain, DL 2006 plus lots and lots of others. Really liked the DL on tap. Just missed out on the BA Vanilla DL on tap, waited in line for 30 minutes when I saw it on the board, but made it to the front just as it blew.

Was really excited to get mad props on my barleywine while in line (999 barleywine recipe from Homebrewtalk) Always nice to get feedback, even better when it is so positive  Got to share out other homebrews and other beers. Loved that there was more room.

They wouldn't have to worry about bottle allocation cutters so much if they just made it more efficient. Tickets could be traded for "golden tickets" in line- someone walking down the line handing them out. That way they are scratched and people know what they want before even getting in the brewery. They just really need to sell DL in the brewery (do other bottle sales outside like they did last year) Or set up a much bigger area in the brewery parking lot to sell DL allocation, with double as many people selling.

Had an excellent time up there yesterday, got to try the BA vanilla darklord for the first time and it was amazing, and my girlfriend(mule) and I both won our scratch offs, so I got a bottle of vanilla and de muerte to bring home with me... told her to grab another vanilla but apparently they were sold out...

The bottle sharing in the morning was amazing, tried alot of amazing beers, and alot of hyped up beers (some that turned out to be terrible, at least that was what I thought, some of my friends liked them.. personal preferance i guess)

this is offtopic / the wrong place, but

I am looking for those intelligentsia snifters from yesterday, or tasting glasses from prior years darklord events.
Picked up one as soon as I grabbed my bottles of DL, and my buddy ended up breaking it later in the day on accident, after they were all sold out :slight_frown:

We were in Group E. The line was long but we had couple people around us to pass the time. My golden ticket won but I didn't want what was left at 9pm so I traded my ticket to someone in the warehouse for a bottle of regular Dark Lord.

While we were in line way in the back by BMW Constructors some guy was driving around on a trike with a trailer holding a small keg. He said it was homebrewed Dark Lord and it was AMAZING. Anyone happen to know that guy and if he is on Beer Advocate?

That Baller Stout/Dark Lord/BA Dark Lord mix they had on tap for a bit was great also.

Only one problem with that idea: There was a lack of Minions this year. The server permit requirements scared away a bunch of people, lowering the census. A great idea though.

For the number of people with DLD experience combined with the number of people with opinions, I feel like BA could successfully crowd-source something very close to the ideal future setup.

Better yet: if you are in the first group you MUST buy your allotment in that time period. Otherwise you wait until AFTER the last group to purchase.
