I have looked forward to DLD for a long time and finally got my greasy paws on some tickets this year and am stoked to be going. I not only look forward to purchasing some Dark Lord and listening to some face melting metal but look forward to sharing some libations with friends and strangers before, during and after the festival. I was sharing a pint with a colleague the other day and we had a conversation about what to expect, more so what other people will bring as well what we will bring to the fest.

As a novice beer drinker from Chicago who realizes that Chicagoans are spoiled with our distribution chain receiving most any popular packaged brew. It is tough to narrow down what to bring so that others traveling in get to try some new stuff. I am torn between bringing some high gravity stout bombers from my stash or acquiring some fresh hopped locals gems from around the city.

    What are you bringing??

I am also from the Chicago area, so I can commiserate with the question of what to bring. I usually bring some good locals, some stuff my from personal stash, and I try to grab some fun stuff from another distro area. Usually I go New Glarrus, which goes over very, very well, or something more far flung. A few years ago I went Pliny and RR. Last year was a 3 year vertical of Central Waters BB Stout and BB Barley Wine. This year I have been stashing Cigar City bombers and am trying to justify a beer centric trip to Lake Geneva for some NG.

DLD is about good beer and the great beer community. It is a day to appreciate all beer and the awesome people that drink it.

I usually bring local chicagoland beers. Last year I brought some Pipeworks bombers that I shared while waiting in line with some out-of-towners. This year I am going to bring a couple BA Pipeworks.

I appreciate being able to sample beers that are not available in Chicago's distribution area, but it's all good.

Don't feel pressure to bring rare beers. Bring whatever you want. People will be happy to sample it.

Bring whatever you feel like drinking that day. Planning it out is silly, IMO. Whatever it is, plenty of people will be glad to drink it with you.

I agree. Pretty much anything and everything you can think of will be there and everyone there is having a good time pouring whatever they have and getting pours back. However, I do like it when people put together spreadsheets to set a few trades up. If I knew how to do it I would! Look, I'm not good with spreadsheets and I'm not good with clues. What I am good at is kickin' ass and rippin' throats!

Damn right we will. I'll have my Bruery Reserve Society growler cooler by then. Already told the guys at Penrose. Plan on stopping in Friday night and grabbing a pair of whatever they want us to share at DLD.

Other than that, I'm focusing on low ABV beers. I want to be able to get a pour of Dark Lord and enjoy the guest taps. I'll have some Night Shift Berliners and maybe a bottle of Side Project. Probably one stout cause isn't it required? Hoping to have the FFF/Bruery collaboration in hand by DLD. I'd obviously bring that along if it makes it in time.
