    Hey,

Has anyone heard anything about the event for this year? Interested to go but don't have much information on it so far. The website hasn't updated from last year.

    Thanks

They usually don't announce it or update the site until March, but it is usually the last Saturday in April.

Nothing has been announced or posted. Anything right now is an assumption based on previous years. Go read through the 2015 (or any year) thread, it has anything you need to know about dark lord day.

Yeah like others have said, any info probably won't surface until mid February. Going by years past, tickets generally have gone on sale in mid March and as Kodt stated it's always the last weekend in April.

I wonder if they will be using the same approach to group and ga tickets this year.

    Wish list:

    1) Eliminate general admission tickets. More space, less thieves.
    2) Everybody gets one variant. FFF is bigger. Make it happen.
    3) Dry weather

Mostly want dry weather. Doesn't have to be sunny or tropical, but dry is a must.

Not bad. Here's a suggestion to make this a better event, based on the usual suspects going through the line multiple times until they got a winning golden ticket last year, among other issues.

Upon entry to the event, all bottle ticket holders get their "golden ticket" and two wristbands. Their ticket is either destroyed or torn in half, etc. One wristband grants you re-entry to the event, but it does not allow you to get another "golden ticket". If the "golden ticket" is a winner, you can pick up your 1 bottle in the warehouse at your designated group time.

On your way out of the event at any time, your other wristband is cut off, and with your pre-purchase of your 4 bottles (like Cigar City did last year with Hunahpu's Day), you get a bag with your allocation contained therein.

Bottles will be setup at both the north and south exits in tents, to allow for easy exit when the time comes that you want to leave. This way, should you so desire, you can take your bottles immediately to your car or whatnot and avoid having to worry about them being stolen for the rest of the day. This also allows for more bottle sharing/beer drinking from the taps (i.e., more revenue for FFF) as you're not stuck in an hour+ wait to get through bottle pickup while the event is going on.

They'll never eliminate GA tickets. It's a monster money grab; more profits and zero additional effort outside of checking bags at the entrance (and I think those "checkers" are volunteers...so more $$).

By the way, people were trying to steal DL even before GA tickets were a thing.

Yeah don't get rid of GA, it's nice to be able to go to the fest if you miss out on the instant sell out allotment tickets.

As @TrapJaw77 said, Dark Lord theft has been a thing long before GA.

They do need to address the people who got multiple Golden Tickets though. Perhaps another tear off the lanyard, once that is gone no more Golden Tickets for you.

After having a brain fart last year and forgetting when tickets went on sale, I plan on attempting to get tickets this year. My buddy really wants to go, and neither of us have ever been, so we might as well go for it.

This and like 200 extra portable toilets, security, barricades, staging, lighting, and other stuff that isn't free but required to host an event for thousands of people.

Plus with the band lineups they get each year, there are people interested in going who have no interest in BA dark lord variants and rare whalez bottle sharing and just want to see the bands.

As someone who had to go through GA like a pauper last year (and didn't even attempt to steal any DL! :slight_frown:) I agree with this. DLD is too big at this point to limit entry to people buying bottles, and those not buying bottles are (I would think) more likely to purchase lots of food and beer (because you won't be drinking beers in the actual DL line), since it and (maybe) the bands are all said people came for.

    Hi All,

I'll start by saying sorry if this info is available on Beeradvocate or elsewhere, but I've looked and looked and cannot find hide nor hair of anything regarding Dark Lord Day 2016. I've gone the last four years, and there have been ups and downs, but it's become an event that my buddies and I all make sure to make time for and do some big-boy-bottle-sharing (and our wives all officially recognize it)...I'd love to go this year. Anyone have any info about ticket on-sale date and how to get tickets? Is it happening?! - Three Floyds is oddly silent on the matter, and http://darklordday.com looks like a basic Wordpress site that requires a password. Any help from the folks here is much appreciated!

You've got the correct website bookmarked already so you should be good to go once it's ready. All the necessary details will be posted there. You can always follow them on social media for any updates too. There are a few 2016 DLD threads in this forum but we're all in the same boat as you. Good luck.

Don't worry, they take down the site for a while every year while they work on updates for the next year. Usually a little while before St. Patricks day. Their Facebook site and Twitter accounts will post when there is an update, along with an official date and ticket sales date.

They usually don't announce till beginning of March, so this is normal.

No they haven't. They've changed ticket vendors the last 3 years, and each one did it on a different day of the week.

2009 - Tickets sold on St. Patrick's Day (Tuesday) via darklordday.com
2010 - Tickets sold on St. Patrick's Day (Wednesday) via Shopify
2011 - Tickets sold weekend after St. Patrick's Day (Saturday) via MusicToday
2012 - Tickets sold on St. Patrick's Day (Saturday) via MusicToday
2013 - Tickets sold on St. Patrick's Day (Sunday) via MusicToday
2014 - Tickets sold on St. Patrick's Day (Monday) via CrowdSurge
2015 - Tickets sold on weekend before St. Patrick's Day (Saturday) via Etix

Following these trends, most likely ticket sales dates for 2016 are the 12th, 17th or 19th of March.

Another reminder, just to see how far this event has come.

    All ticket prices before fees.

    2009 - Tickets sold on St. Patrick's Day (Tuesday) via darklordday.com - $10
2010 - Tickets sold on St. Patrick's Day (Wednesday) via Shopify - $10
2011 - Tickets sold weekend after St. Patrick's Day (Saturday) via MusicToday - $10
2012 - Tickets sold on St. Patrick's Day (Saturday) via MusicToday - $15
2013 - Tickets sold on St. Patrick's Day (Sunday) via MusicToday - $30
2014 - Tickets sold on St. Patrick's Day (Monday) via CrowdSurge - $30
2015 - Tickets sold on weekend before St. Patrick's Day (Saturday) via Etix - $40

Wouldn't be surprised if tickets are $50 a piece before fees this year.

In fairness, 2013 was the first year FFF handed over the organization of DLD to a 3rd party (Running Waters Group) I believe and it's likely RWG do not do it out of the kindness of their hearts. 2012 was a flat out clusterf#$k within the gates so the price jump in 2013 was well worth it imo.

Without a doubt it was a worthwhile price bump. Last years bump was a bit harder to take, especially with all of the general admission tickets being sold. Still I imagine the bigger bands and additional tents and services required a bit of a bump. Hopefully there's not another increase this year, but given the quick sell-out, the market will obviously bear a higher price.

And they need to make up lost revenue from all the people leaving early last year thanks to miserable weather.

    1. Eliminate GA Tickets
    2. Cut allotment per person to 2 bottles. (thus allowing double the amount of people to attend)
    3. Do one random varient per person. FFF is massive at this point and they should be able to accomodate this.
    4. Get better bands.

    OR

And this is a relaly crazy idea.
Just let people line up for bottles and forgo the ticket process altogether. You can still throw an awesome beer festival on a weekend with better weather.
    - Set regular limits based on turnout
    - Varients are 1pp untill gone
    - Do the release at 4pm and have a strict no one inline before 12.

No, 13 was great. But 14 was too perfect as no one would leave and the lines for everything were ridiculous. Want to get a beer? Wait an hour. Want some food? Wait an hour. Buy merchandise? Wait an hour. Use the can? Wait an hour.
