My girlfriend and I are going to be heading to DLD from Austin, TX this year. We'll be getting to the area on Wednesday and are planning on hitting breweries in Wisconsin, Illinois, and possibly Michigan. We've never visited the area before, and are having a difficult time coming up with an itinerary.

Which beer-related places should we visit/see/experience, and which should we avoid? Breweries, beer stores, bars, etc. I'd love to go to New Glarus and Goose Island, for instance but don't know if they get too crowded to enjoy around this time of year... I need some advice.

    Thanks!

New Glarus is 2 1/2 hour drive from Chicago. I would rather spend my time in Chicago at Half Acre, Goose Island, Revolution Brewing, Haymarket Brewery and Piece Brewing. I would also go to many of the amazing bars :
Maproom, Fountainhead, Northdown, Longroom etc.. When you guys hit Chicago let me know and I can show you around. Cheers!

Johnny's Tap on south Calumet. About 4-5 miles north of FFFs, off I-80/94. "It's where Mr. Fun is"

Man, all of these places sound great. Are the area breweries completely overrun in the days leading up to DLD?

Nothing more than usual, in my experience.

I would definitely say the Hopleaf rates up there with places to check out and possibly the Fountainhed, although a little distant from some of the other places. I second Piece though (White Mashed Potato Pizza is phenomenal), by far one of my favorite spots, plus the maproom isn't that far from there either. A new spot I haven't checked out is called The Pour House, over 100 taps I hear.

I agree with what most have said. My girlfriend and I will be at Flossmoor the night before. Then we are heading up to Madison on Sunday to hit up New Glarus and a few other places. I would definitely recommend checking out New Glarus. Madison also has Ale Asylum, Vintage Brewing, and Tyranena is close by too. If you are going to New Glarus, let me know, we can meet up for a beer. You should bring some Jester King too!!

Nothing crazy but if in the NW IN area besides three floyds there is a few small brew pubs; crown brewing should have some solid beers on tap for the week of DLD...its in crown point IN; Figure Eight is in Valpo and is mighty tasty and in Highland not too far from three floyds there is a bar called beer geeks- if you like to play Sorry and drink good beer this is your kind of place! Nothing like the Chicago scene but thought Id throw out some close local places.

Beer Geeks bar is about 10 min east of FFF's. They're having some special tappings for DLD weekend, including KBS.
