Based on your reviews/hads you prefer stouts to IPAs, would you say that is correct? I might end up bringing one of each only time will tell

I like everything, I just review more stouts :) Seriously though, just grab whatever you think is their best offering that you can get in a growler. I'm not picky.

To pschul4 and MarkIntihar, I'm hoping Indignant (aged in Templeton Rye barrels) will still be available the day before DLD. I will pour it into every empty cup I see.

We will most likely be bringing a Haymarket growler or two as well, so they should be well represented at DLD!

I have my eye on their Defender but if that's not available I'm a big fan of the Aliester IPA

Of course this far out it's impossible to tell what will still be on tap by then

Looks like I'll be set on trying a Haymarket pour or two! :)

Love both of those brews as well and yea it's still a little far out to know what they're gonna have around DLD. I had the Lizzie's Simcoe IPA last week and that was one of the better IPAs I've had up there do if that's still flowin I'll prolly go with that. I'm hoping they'll have Mathias back on tap b4 DLD in which case I will def be bringing a growler of that. It's in fermentation now so we'll c

Such a shame that one has to watch their bottles like a hawk because of some unethical bastards that might steal them... Although I would've preferred to have Group A or B, Group C does afford one the advantage of getting his or her bottles at the end of the day and not having to keep track of them.

Wow, glaring error to my OP - DEFINITELY bring a waiter's corkscrew, both for Cantillon/Ithaca bottles as well as champagne corks that don't want to come loose like Boulevard.

Yes, pschul4, it's sad that Rye Indignant is out, but chanokokoro has the right idea: Mathias!

At Sausagefest there they had the Lizzie's simcoe as well as Double Daisy Cutter and some other hoppy beers. I enjoyed the Lizzie's more than the DDC. It's damn good.

Damn they had DDC on tap at sausage fest!? I knew I shouldve got tix to that. I have 1 bomber of DDC left that I'll b pouring at DLD

Thanks for bringing this back from the dead. Only thing I'll add is the no coolers is referring to large hard plastic coolers. If you have a cooler bag with a shoulder strap you are fine. They don't want people dragging a rolling cooler through lines all day and taking up space. I have a large cooler bag, fits 6 bombers that I have brought the last 2 years, no problems. Target sells a nice back pack cooler that a few of my friends use.

What's the story on parking for DLD? Is it just on the sides of the roads in the office park?

Avoid it at all costs. But I'm pretty sure there is limited parking but you're going to pay for it

Side of the road in the office park fills up pretty early. Id guess by 6 am. A couple of the other businesses got smart and started charging for parking. I paid $20 to park in the lot at the Jewish center. I think the park across calumet also was charging $10 or $20 last year.

I am always dumbfounded by the sheer number of people who drive to Dark Lord Day. Be careful out there folks. The last thing I want to see on here (or anywhere for that matter) is news of a tragic event that could have been avoided taking place after DLD.

Are you allowed to leave your car overnight, assuming you've paid the $20 for parking? I'd imagine people would want to have cars to have a base of operations and a place to keep a cooler of beer/store Dark Lord allotment in during DLD.

The grounds were muddy in areas last year so don't wear your new shoes. There is rain in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday so be prepared.

So glad I found this thread. I scored 2 tickets to this year's DLD and some of the stories have me a bit nervous, lol. I do have a bunch of questions and I am hoping I can some of them answered here. Many of them revolve around the distinction between on the event grounds and off, I believe. So, here goes:

    1. Can a backpack be brought in? I was thinking a decent size pack would be great for carrying everything in and carrying purchases out. I know some events don't allow packs, so I want to make sure about this. It would also allow me to keep my hands free more than carrying something with a handle.

    2. I have seen mention that a soft cooler can be brought in, so this is good. Is this mainly for beers I bring to share, or is it for carrying beers out? I was thinking I could put my DL in my backpack mentioned in the previous question, but I was curious about the primary use of the cooler.

    3. Which brings me to another question regarding the shares. I have seen some pictures, and these look legendary. Is the whole event a bottle share as well? Is the bottle share all day? I have been to some beer events where people will share in line, but once they get into the event, there is no more sharing. I figured I could bring in a Kuhnhenn growler and some other decent beers if this is the case.

    4. This one is a big one for me--can I go back and forth to my car (providing I am parked somewhat close by) if I want? I figured the car could be a good base of operations if I am able to go back to it somewhat easily. Basically, is it fairly easily to leave and enter if I want?

    5. On the subject of parking. My pickup time is 6:30-8:30, and I am driving there from Detroit, so I will be getting there after the event starts, probably early afternoon. Since I am getting there later, and willing to pay, should I be able to find at least some parking, even if it is a few blocks away? My hope is that I can catch some early people leaving and grab a spot.

    6. This is the last question topic for now. Do people bring cameras? Is it okay to bring one? I guess this goes with the backpack question, in that a camera bag would basically be a small backpack, or I would put it in my regular pack. This would go along with the back and forth to the car thing too. I wouldn't mind having a camera in the car and just grabbing it for a little while, then putting it back.

Sorry for all the questions, but I figured this would be the best place to get an answer. DLD has been on my beer bucket list for a while, and I want to make sure I get the best experience I can.
