Per Facebook post. Interesting
Maybe provide a link to it or screenshot......
I don't see any option to upload a screenshot, but they posted the following on facebook:
"We're closing temporary due to production issues. Sorry for the inconvenience."
A few hours prior to that, they posted, "Looking for a new brewer. Anyone interested?"
A continuation of this perhaps:
I’m not 100% sure how to read the docket and whether or not they came out of Chapter 11.
Now today we have:
"We'll be opening at 5pm today."
Only to be followed by this 10 minutes later:
"We will be closed permanently in Middlesex, NJ."
Well, they're living to their name, I guess.
What a mess.
Over on reddit/ njbeer:
I liked a good swath of their output. Little sad, to be honest. They were very close and the first beer review I posted on my beer blog was their witbier https://thetaptakeover.com/2017/05/23/beer-review-vila-wit-from-demented-brewing/
Thanks for sharing that update. What a bummer.
There's a GoFundMe to move the brewery.
Lol is he asking for a cool Million bucks?
Guy may be crazier than previously thought
Moving to Lambertville? To the old River Horse location?
Never had a beer of theirs that i enjoyed, also never heard s good comment about the taproom and the mug club, both all negative comments.
I am not a brewer or brewery owner; but common sense would imply to get your thoughts together and have a plan; the image that the owner has put for his business recently is Embarrassing, how much brand relevance & equity does Demented have
Personal issues wise, i hope he is ok, might be time to walk away
Never a huge fan of Demented but it was the closest brewery to me so I’ve been there a number of times to sample some stuff. Honestly I liked some things (other things, eh) but wow never expected the post we all just read. Feel bad for the owner and the staff because if taken at face value that bar owner is a douche bag. That’s way beyond looking out for your own livelihood. But at any rate sounds like Demented was heading down the tubes at some point regardless. Hope the guy gets help.
That reddit thread got deleted, would you mind giving a quick summary of what the deal is?
EDIT: well, not deleted completely but the OP deleted his post for some reason
I guess maybe the guy felt he overstepped by posting. Basically the post said the brewery had problems from the start, including a nearby bar owner constantly undermining them and who was part of that move to stop breweries from having events, etc. On top of that he said the owner of Demented has been having personal issues, including mental health problems. That would explain the erratic social media posts recently. Anyway, that’s a summary of what was posted. Don’t know how true it is.
I guess this is it?
Yup that was it. What a train wreck.
There was apparently also a post (partial below) from the accused bar.
Yeah that Reddit is post is mostly BS.
For one.......the guy from the restaurant can't be on the ABC board because there is no ABC board.
All the Facebook posts have now been deleted. Weird saga. A lot of people were critical of their beer but I really enjoyed my time there and the product. It's a shame there's such a lack a of transparency. I wish the guy well because it really isn't professional to throw your staff under the bus and not give your customers any information. Especially those who bought into your memberships or had gift cards. Hope he gets the mental health care he needs but definitely leaves a bad taste and makes me reluctant to support demented in the future
...and now they're open again, a post went up at about 8PM on Monday, March 25. Text copied and pasted in the event this post comes down, too. This really is one of the stranger stories in NJ Craft Beer community:
But your brewery is named "Demented" ?
All of them? Weren't they contradictory? "Opened", "Closing", "Moving"....
someone write a TV pilot about this..
Went there a few times and had some decent beers, but there is a reason that Conclave is my fave local. Bad when two flights had only a beer or two that were worth a second pour.
As per their Facebook page Demented is now permanently closed.
Hope the staff lands on their feet quickly. Every time I went there I spoke to Liz who I especially enjoyed meeting. It's unfortunate to lose a member of the NJ craft beer industry, but craft beer in New Jersey is still growing every day.
Friday was the last day. The workers were allowed to open and sell off all the beer they could and split the $$$.
Here was their official "announcement" on Instagram. No thank you to the customers, no thank you to the employees, just a picture of a random empty bar somewhere.
Thank you @Jacobier10 - the greatest customer who ever lived. We love you, we salute you. Godspeed
This whole thing was very weird, and that picture is the weirdest. WTF? Luckily, for me anyway, I was able to try several of their beers and I was never really impressed so I won't miss them. There are, however, at least a handful of breweries that I would have rather seen go in their place. Respect is deserved. RIP Demented.
Please tell me that’s not a picture of the bar mentioned above. Hopefully just my twisted mind at work.
Don't no what bar that is but it's not the one at Demented.
It's a picture of the bar at Menlo Park AMC according to a Reddit post.
Well, 2 of the taps are Sam Adams products (looks like Cold Snap and Angry Orchard) and the other one is a Blue Moon tap so it’s clearly not their taproom.
