These are hitting Chicagoland today, just came from Binnys Schaumberg, they will let you buy one, so you have to choose and they are 29.99.....but as a suprise bonus they also have The Dissident, that was a more reasonable 16.99. Not all stores are getting it though, Algonquin got none. Also I had to ask and he went and grabbed them from the back, nice guy, he was the one who asked if I wanted dissident(had no clue it was coming).

Some Chicago stores are doing $25, which isn't terrible.

Glad I was able to score a few, was curious to see how "limited" it is so I shot an email for myself and anyone who might care.

I had a pour of the Rye Whiskey at Deschutes in Portland, pretty phenomenal.

Damn I was just at a Binny's and they had a lot of regular Abyss on the shelf. Didn't know we had to ask for them. Called my two other local craft beer stores and they sold out in less than hour. Lesson learned, always ask! Been waiting for this to show up in Chicago.

Haven't been able to track down a Cognac, but I will pile on the sentiment that the Rye is phenomenal fresh. One of the best BA stouts I've had in a long time.

Just had both on tap this last weekend in Portland and they were both amazing. I did prefer the rye, but would not be disappointed if I could only get the cognac.

I was able to snag a rye this afternoon at Binnys in Lakeview, but I only knew they had them because I saw another guy get one from the back room.

I walked into Happy Harry's in Fargo and both were sitting on the shelf. Checked BA and walked out with a cognac. That is why I love BA!

FYI, the beer is very bitter. That smokey, oaky-dry bitterness from regular Abyss is very prominent here. At least in the Rye Whiskey version.

Called every Binnys within my range yday (about 7 of them) and visited the 2 that still had some in the Chicagoland area and was able to snag a rye and whiskey for each me and my buddy! Months of trolling this thread of when these variants would show up in chitown and very happy to get a pair of each! Now the hard part, waiting until they are ripe for drinking.

I'd agree that the Rye version is a bit bitter, but that definitely is typical of Abyss. I'm enjoying this right now! Was only able to get 1, and no luck with the cognac.

And some of us are lucky enough to get the regular'16 Abyss at $12.99 at WF in PHX today. Store said they got only 1 case of rye, gone in a few hours. No cognac available.

A case of rye just landed at my local place here in NorCal Bay Area. I see a few got theirs in San Francisco weeks ago. So I'm surprised that these showed up so late. $25 each. Fingers crossed that cognac is still inbound.

I'm glad I was able to get a Rye whiskey one in trade.

Paying $30/bottle in Chicago, with all the options already available here, would have been a no-go from the start.

I scored a rye in Vail, and found two Cognacs in Carbondale. I left two on the shelf for the rest of youse. Drank the rye, (my first Abyss) and it was really impressive.

The cognac and rye variants have more barrel time than Reg. Abyss right?

Regular Abyss is only 50% barrel aged. For the variants: "These two remarkably rare releases are 100% aged in their respective barrels"

At several of my local bevmos in northern CA the rye is $17.50. I was told they ordered regular abyss and accidently got the rye (at regular price) so they are charging us what they would the regular abyss. The sku on the bottle doesn't work and incidentally, the sign under the rye is for regular abyss..they have to manually override the system to get it to ring up so it kinda sounds legit. Perhaps something like that happened there. I paid $27 for cognac elsewhere in same area 1 mos ago.

No accident, the bottle shop I manage doesn't gouge on prices. Regular/Cognac/Rye were all priced the same by the case by our distributor. We used our normal markup % and it came to $17 a bottle. Having said that, we were only shipped one case of each, along with a case of The Dissident, priced exactly the same. I personally bought one bottle of each 4, then our 11 best customers were given the opportunity the do the same, some people just wanted variants, some wanted all, some wanted just regular Abyss, some just Dissident, all in all I believe we were able to get about 25 customers total covered with what stock we had. Wholesale price may have been a mistake by our distributor, but we choose the high road and not to gouge our customers, regardless of rarity or whale status.

I typically do the same for the most part. I just wished the labels weren't screwed up and TABC would allow them to be released.

My store in Montana still has 4-5 cases of the regular abyss. Don't know about other states but our wholesale cost for the variants was significantly higher than the regular.

Adding my two cents... Think the cognac was smoother now. The rye had more bite. As far as what I read I'm in the minority on this.

Was passing through Philly on Sunday and stopped at craft beer outlet. They got a case of each variant for $35 a bottle. Wasn't on the shelf I asked the owner what's new and limited and said they just came in.

Our local shop just got some in. They are doing a raffle with their club customers, so hopefully I get a chance to pick up a bottle. Pretty excited, as I have only heard great things about this beer.
