Can you tell when it was bottled? I cannot find a bottle date anywhere.
its on the neck of the bottle , hold it up to light if you cant see it
If these bottles were stamped 5 or more years ago, they are long gone!
I was hoping there was some other clue. Maybe in the artwork, or the bottle cap which is bright green with a dogfish in a triangle. Should I assume they are from 2007?
I thinkmine is from '08, think i'll have it tonight
Mine is in my friend's place so I can't tell you exactly where the date is right now but it should be stamped somewhere on there. I remember mine is 07 but can't remember the month and day. I doubt there are artwork or abv clues you can use to figure it out.
When was it last brewed? 2008?
Just checked again, mine is '07 and I think that was the last of it
07 was the last year I'm pretty sure
Yeah, I remember 2007 being the last year as well.
All my stamps were smeared when i got them....i do believe they were march of 07
2007 was the last year of production and it's fantastic!
I went into a tiny liquor store in a small town, which has lately been improving its craft section, and was surprised to see they had a couple singles of this, I didn't pick it up but I'm thinking about going back, do you think its worth picking up? I'm just worried about what is likely years of inadequate handling/storage.
I have one left...make me an offer...
both the 2007 and 2005 i had still had very prominent yellow ink on the shoulder announcing when they were brewed. think the original releases were corked and caged (check last page of reviews; seems to be around 2002--could look up first release pretty easily but my attention span ran out).
basically, it's old. strangely enough, i felt like my 2007 was over the hill, while i liked the 2005 a lot more. oxidation wasn't as total and destructive. still think every bottle of that beer is probably currently way past its prime, but this might be a minority opinion.
I have one bottled from 06. Something tells me its gonna be a raisin bomb from hell.
I've got 3 bottles from '06 I just picked up 2 weeks ago. I'm certainly not as stoked as I was after reading this......Anybody had one from '06 recently?
Ive heard people say it was rough. Make a new thread about it, Im sure you'll get some answers.
I had an '07 about two months ago and thought it was delicious. It was vibrant in flavor, not too boozy, and I couldn't detect any notes of oxidation. I suppose each batch is different, especially at such a high abv, but I can't imagine the '06 being that bad. It's as potent as 120 and World Wide Stout for goodness sakes!
A few of my bottles still have visible dates, and a few don't. I'm sure they will all be raisin bombs from Hell, but that's what this beer is about!
As long as it isnt sitting in front of a window I'd give it a shot, your sure it was d'Extra? Green caps? If you go back pick up an extra and I'll make it worth your while with some VT goodness.
08/30/2005 and 03/15/2007 are the bottling dates I own. There was a 2006 12 oz batch and it was also bottled in 750ml caged and corked bottles in the real early 2000's. The '05 are '07 still drinking fantasticly.
2007 was the last year.
I have a trade working for two 2007 bottles, I can't wait to try one.
I had a 2004 a month or so ago that was fantastic, you should be fine
I had one from 07 last month and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
I've had two 05's and an 07 in the last year, and I thought both 05's were drinking wonderfully, while the 07 just wasn't quite as good of a batch.
There definitely are still bottles of D'Extra floating around out there in stores, but they're getting less and less common. It's probably my favorite DFH beer, and I really wish they'd bring it back. It's definitely not for everyone (or even most people) though...
Yeah I'm positive, I'm gonna go back to the shop this weekend and if they're still there I'll send you a message
I regret not buying every one I've seen. My favorite DFH beer.
last bottling march 2007. Dogfish has hinted about brewing this but that was a few years ago now and still nothing.
That's great to hear. The regular Raison is one of my standby's and I had never seen a bottle of the D'Extra anywhere. I should just try one. I'm guessing it would be the first 6 year old bottle of beer I've ever had, if it sucks it sucks-I got taken.
