My gravity post mash and pre boil was 1.050. Post boil it was 1.060.

It was my first all grain batch. I lost about a gallon of wort when boiling (collected 6.5g, ended up with 5.5g)

Is that much of a change in gravity from pre boil to post boil typical?

Pre boil volume x Preboil gravity points = Post boil volume x post boil gravity points

    Always. Math doesn't lie.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Is it for someone to check your readings?

There isn't an efficiency so to speak on how much your gravity will change. If you have any of the three numbers you can calculate the fourth.

I think he was asking if the amount of wort loss (and therefore gravity gain) was typical of what I am assuming is a 60 minute boil, which it was.

You lost about 16% of your volume - all water - which increases your gravity by around 18%. So yes, 1.060 is about right.

Pre-boil: 6.5 gallons x 50 (take last two digits from gravity 1.050)= 325 gravity points.
    Post boil: 325/5.5 gallons = 59.09 ie 1.059 OG
    So yeah, that's correct.

Yes, unless you boiled for longer than normal (60 min)
