I realized recently that my fridge had a decent assortment of DIPAs. So with my wife's help, I did a little impromptu taste test.

    The contestants were:

Lagunitas Sucks - 97 BA Rating
Odell Myrcenary - 96 BA Rating
Peace Tree Hop Sutra - 88 BA Rating
Surly Abrasive - 100 BA Rating
    Bell's Hopslam - 100 BA Rating

Some were fresher than others, so that may be a factor. But it was a fun test anyway.

First surprise, I managed to go 0-5 in guessing which was which. That surprised me, I thought for sure I knew which was Hopslam. But I didn't.

    Final results.

In a very close finish, Bell's Hopslam was my favorite, I thought it was Abrasive.
Number 2 was Odell Myrcenary, which I guessed as being Lagunitas Sucks
Number 3 was Abrasive, which I guessed as being Hopslam
Number 4 was Hop Sutra, which I guessed as being Myrcenary
Number 5 was Lagunitas Sucks, which I guessed as being Hop Sutra

So it seems that I like Myrcenary more than I realized, and Sucks less than I thought.

Hopslam & Abrasive were near the top, that makes sense. And I've never been too impressed by Hop Sutra.

This was fun, and eye opening. I'll have to try it again with some other style, and with a few friends.

Whatever the case, that's a solid fucking line-up of brews right there.

Very cool! I did a Stout tasting a couple of weeks back and was fooled by a few. I will hold myself to 3-4 next time and not 5. By the time I was on my fifth, my palate was shot. That beer was 99 rated and would have guessed water...lol.

I like Sucks...I really do. But last year, I just didn't get why people were freaking out over it? So, I drank it fresh again this year, and it was definitely tasty, but not mind blowing for me. To each their own though, I'm not dissing the beer at all, as I still see myself buying a 6pk every year.

Myrcenary is so damn good. I think it doesn't get the respect it deserves b/c it's always available, so no "limited release" hype behind it.
