I enjoy beer, but I don't consider myself a geek about it though. Just because someone has a higher than average knowledge of a certain subject, doesn't suddenly loop them into this category. You don't hear people who are into football call themselves a "football geek".

Beer Geek and proud of it!

Seriously, everyone of you has created an account/password to somewhat anonymously share thoughts and reviews concerning Beer on this wonderfully entertaining website. Don't kid yourself...but it's OK.

I don't feel the need to call myself anything, I just love beer. With that being said, I'd much rather be referred to as a beer geek, instead of a beer snob any day of the week.

Agree with you 100%...I want to keep the evolution of beer moving in the right direction, but I don't wan t to be a dick or labeled as a dick for having a better palate than most beer drinkers.

Right on! Live and enjoy whatever the F you want to enjoy to make you happy. There are times when I'll drink a commercial mass produced beer, but IF (and that's a big if) I have a choice then I'll grab a tasty IPA or stout. I've helped a lot of people see "the light" on good beer, and I hope that the industry keeps evolving so we always have another Heady Topper or Dark Lord to drink and say, "damn that is a tasty beverage" (in Samuel L. Jackson voice).

no, I do not ... but most of my family and friends would (or do) consider me one.

i'm getting there. more and more, i'm trying to learn not just what a beer's IBU rating is but what specific hops are in it. BA can make a beer geek out of you, that's for sure.

I don't call my self a beer geek. I call my self a sophisticated beer drinker. I talk to my different alcohol and wine reps and ask me hat I like, I appreciate both, but tell them I am a beer guy and continue to tell them styles and different beers I like comparing them to local beers. mmmmm beer.. And I am a level 1 Cicerone and level 1 Sommelier.

I dont see stating a quantifiable fact as being a dick. I've played the electric bass for close to 18 years. I dont think it would make me a dick to say the work I've put in during that time makes me a better player than someone who picked up the instrument last week.

I've also had several hundred unique beers and have put in lots of time researching beer styles and tasting notes. Am I a dick for saying I have a more trained palate than someone who has only had BMC? Am I a better human being than them? Unknown based on the evidence presented. But do I know more about beer? Yes.

not necessarily but people can tell I guess.

doesn't help that when you're at events and your friends yell "omg, you have to meet Sam! She's the craft beer QUEEN!" :flushed: -_____-; *sigh*
